Rent a Car + Driver to tour Angkor !!

by into-thin-air

If you fancy splashing out then a good idea is to rent a car to go around the Temples of Angkor !! a days rental works out around $20 a day all in !! so if there is 3 or 4 of you it is then comparable with motorcycle rental but with comfort and the luxury of air Conditioning !!My Guy was called Somphirom, he was an excellent guide and spoke really good English and French !!

Ferry from Kratie to Kompong Cham

by into-thin-air

After Bouncing around in the back of a Pick-up Truck the Ferry is an Excellent way to travel on down the Mekong, a little cramped and noisy video's are shown inside but you can get stretched out on the roof and enjoy all the great views that the Mekong has to offer !!!!

Ferry Stung Treng to Krati

by into-thin-air

It was my experience that the ferry from Stung Treng to Kratie only runs every other day !! Although when I arrived at Stung Treng I was assured that there would be a ferry the next day but there wasn't ( I can only assume that this was a bit of a ploy to ensure that I stayed one night in town so as to give some trade to the " hotel " and " restaurant " ??? ) However I decided that I didn't relish a further night in town so the only other option was to Hire a place in a local pick-up truck !! I had heard reports that this road was prime Bandit territory !! The Pick-Up Flew !! and the roads were truly appalling but never-the-less we made it to Kratie Safe and Sound if with rather a sore Bottom !!!!

Boat Hire when crossing the border from Laos

by into-thin-air

When you exit Laos you will have to hire a boat first to take you to the Cambodian Customs then on down the Mekong to Stung Treng. It is best if you can get a group of you together for this so as to share costs and to try for a " Discount " on the " fee " ( You WILL of course have to be in possession of a valid Cambodia visa before attempting this border crossing ) that you will be charged to enter Cambodia !!Good Luck !!!!

One of my Fondest Memories is from this Tuk-Tuk

by illa

Except Banteay Srei, which is 38km away from Siem Reap, a little bit too far and you may need a car, all the ruins and temples in Angkor Wat are accessible by Tuk-Tuk. It's ideal tool for two people. Cheap, Comfortable. Don't worry about your route. Don't bring your guide book with you and check from time to time which you visited, which you have missed. Just sit back in this lovely Tuk-Tuk and let the professional and quiet driver show you around.

The Boat ...

by tengpeng

Trip - Siem Reap to Phonm PenhCost - US$22 to 25Frequency - Early morning daily.Duration - 6 hoursBest times to do it - In the wet season when the lakes are full. It was an experience! Begin the trip huddled in the back of a pick-up on a bumpy road as dawn breaks. In ensuing chaos at the dock, scramble to find yourself a place. Set sail as the run rises and shimmers upon the silvery waters of the great lake. Get drenched by the water spray and get dry with the billowing winds and bright sunshine ... then get drenched again ...Expect the unexpected. That is the best way to approach the boat trip from Siem Reap to Phonm Penh. . Do not expect to have a seat, even if you have a seat number. The operators routinely overbook the trip. (Anyway, the windows are fixed and the rear exit is barricaded, so escape may not be possible if the boat capsizes. It is conceivable that it is safer to find...

Royal Phnom Penh Airways

by Sharrie

We flew Royal Phnom Penh Airways from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap & vice versa. I was told the return flight cost US$105 while one way is US$55. If the flight is not full, you can even get your ticket upon arrival in Phnom Penh International Airport. The New Zealander who sat next to me on the flight told me so. She flew from Laos.A very basic airline, the flight took us across the plains of Cambodia in 45 mins each way. If you choose to go by the ferry, it's about 5 hours trip. If you can afford the time, the best way is possibly using both modes of transportation. In this way, you get to see the rural lifestyle of the Cambodian people.Royal Phnom Penh also service other cities like Battambang, Koh Kong, Stung Treng, Rattanakiri, Mondulkiri, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Vientiane & Luang Prabang.

Many ways to get around Cambodia

by Scottyj36

Road travel in Cambodia, in the main cities and roads is ok. Side streets are crumbeling ruins. Roads outside the cities range from ok to non existant.. Bus travel/Taxi travel is rough and can take a long time but is generaly cheap. Taking boats on the various rivers and lakes is a easier ride. The fast boat to Siam Reap is a good way to go. If you can afford it, flying is the quickest easiest way to get around. In cities you can take moto's and Tuk Tuks similar to Thailand. You need to be flexiable when you travel in Cambodia

A: The best foreign currency to take is US dollars. You can use that in most places and easily exchange a few of them to riels.
