Thailand - Cambodia Coastal Crossing

by 34N118W

You can get to and from Cambodia via the coastal border with Thailand. From Bangkok, you'll need to take a bus to Trat (sometimes spelled Trad). I don't remember how much it cost, but I'm sure it wasn't more than 200 baht. From Trat, take a mini bus/pickup to the border for another 200 baht. Thai immigration will be on your right. Once your stamped out, keep walking until you get to the Cambodian immigration window on your left. If you didn't get a visa in advance, you can get one on arrival for about 1000 baht. Once your officially in Cambodia, you'll need to hire a moto or a taxi to take you to the border. They'll probably as for a dollar to drop you off at the ferry. There are several departures throughout the day to Sihanoukville. The fare is $12 dollars. It's basically the same from Sihanoukville to Bangkok except you won't take the ferry the entire way. You're going to get off at...

Big Trucks

by herzog63

You will quite often see these trucks hauling loads of workers heading to the fields. The driver usually has a Crash Helmet on! It would worry me if my driver had a crash helmet and I didn't!! There aren't any cabs on most of these trucks too!! I wonder why??

Going overland from Thailand

by herzog63

We took the 6:30 AM 3rd class train from Bangkok - Aranya Prathet. It is a gorgeous ride through the country side and rice paddies!! Then we walked across the border getting our visas that we need for entry into Cambodia.(if you plan on going please check with the embassy to make sure you can still get visas at the border because this can change) Then we walked 200 yds up the road to the traffic circle where the trucks hangout and negotiated a price to ride in a pickup truck to Siem Riep. We paid 200 Thai Baht each to ride inside the truck. It took about 5 hours to arrive in Siem Riep. But your time will depend on construction, flat tires, driver, etc...We had a motorcycle with driver. They are available for around $5 p/day. Some will act as guides some will just wait outside the temples for you. This is a very conveniant way to get around. As all of the cool temples are quite far from...

Taxis

by sunnywong

You can find large number of them at the carpark of the airport and also the main streets in Phnom Penh. The airport taxi from Pochentong to any hotel in Phnom Penh (about 10 kms) is 7 US$. Private taxis are available outside the arrival area at 5 US$.Chauffeur-driven cars can be rented through major agencies and most hotels. The fare is economical when compared to other places, you only have to pay US$5.0 for a whole-day trip in Phnom Penh.

Domestic flights to Siem Riep

by sunnywong

There are two flights from Phnom Penh and Siem Riep city where Angkor is located at) by Kampuchea Airlines. The return tickets should be bought and reconfirmed once you reach Siem Riep. Other transportations to Siem Riep are not recommeneded as it would be very dangerous for tourists.

MOTO TAXI

by sunnywong

A good way to see sights in the near vicinity is to go by moto taxi. It usually costs USD1. Locals would pay only about 300 to 500 Riels for the same ride. If you venture out farther, you'll have to pay lunch for the driver as well.

Hm the best way ?? Think it...

by tabatha

Hm the best way ?? Think it would be flying to Pnom Penh or Siem Rep. My choise, the hardest one. Ok ok I must addmit I didn't walked from BKK, but it's just closed to it.First I thought about doing it on my own from Thailand to Battambang, but it sounded deffinitly to stressy that I would love to do it at 40 degrees. So tried to find in KSR a bus to Srisophon in Cambodia, but, of course everybody was interested to sell a ticket to Siem Reap, where they get a comission from the hotels. Finally the solution for 140 Baht (way to expensive). So we took the bus in the morning and arrived at the border where they charged those of us without a visa again 200 Baht more than normal. Finally on the way in Cambodia (think you guys outside have nooo idea how the main road makes feel your a**, or not feeling any more, haha). Arriving in Srisophon the way I had to made was: take a motorbike to the bus...

Tuk-tuk

by maribelm

Getting There

by keeweechic

By Air : There are direct flights to Phnom Penh from most neighbouring Asian countries. There are also 6 or 7 flights per day from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap which takes 40 mins and its free seating. Be prepared for a bag search at Siem Reap.By Road : You can also travel by road from Vietnam.By Rail : Rail in Cambodia is not recommended. Safer to fly to Siem Riep. You can rent chauffeur driven cars and are very cheap.
