Cambodia Angkor Airlines

by seagypsy

There is a new national Cambodian carrier called Cambodia Angkor Air and they should offer the HCMC-Siem Reap route as well as the HCMC--Phnom Penh route. They are owned by Cambodia and Vietnam Airlines and began service only a few months ago.http://www.cambodiaangkorair.com/default.aspx?tabid=98 I'm not 100% certain but believe Siem Reap Airways, which was a subsidiary of Bangkok Airways had shut down last year.

Mekong Express Limousine bus

by piglet44

We enjoyed travelling on the Mekong Express bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh.It was a very comfortable air conditioned bus.We were given a packed snack and bottle of water and there is a very clean toilet on the bus.The 'hostess" points out interesting things en route, and the trip takes about 6 hours including a stop for lunch. The trip costs $12 and our guide got the tickets for us .there is a minibus that picks the passengers up from their hotels and takes you to the bus station.

The old jungle road from Koh Kong

by georeiser

The old road from Koh Kong towards Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh was the only way to travel before 2008. (Today a new road has been build by the Chinese). The old road is without asphalt paving and goes trough dense jungle, crossing three wide rivers with ferries. It took 7 hours to get from Koh Kong to Sihanoukville.

Riverboats in Cambodia

by georeiser

Riverboats are frequently beeing used in the rivers of Cambodia. The riverboat on Tonle Sap River, between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh is a great way to explore the rivers, and also have a pleasant trip. The trip takes 6 hours. It's a lot to see.

Siem Reap tuk-tuk driver

by dreigh

Tra Pin, a tuk-tuk driver near the old market (Psar Chaa) in Siem Reap is delightful. He is honest and provides tips (i.e. which locations to hang on to your belongings a little tighter ;) He speaks English quite well and I told him I would send everyone to him because he was so honest and helpful.

River transport in Cambodia.

by cachaseiro

Because of the cambodian roads which are often not very good it is still very common to travel the country by boat on the many rivers that criss cross Cambodia. It's a great way to see the country in my opinion and you get close to the locals that way.Just be prepared that the conditions on the boats are often not very luxurious. It's an adventurous way to see the country so hop on your river boat and go and explore Cambodia.

Additional airport tax on departure

by korehan

When you've spent it all and woke up at 4 AM to go back to your freezing home country, expect to queue for half an hour for the privilege of contributing to the renovation of the airport through an unwelcome 25$/head departure airport tax...read somewhere it was supposed to be included in the ticket price from september '08 onwards. Maybe it has been, but you still had to pay those 25$ when i went there (december)...

from Siem Reap to Vientiane

by seagypsy

Both Lao Airlines and Vietnam Airlines offer flights between Siem Reap and Vientiane. They code-share the route with Lao Airlines being the less expensive of the two. Sometimes during late spring through the summer and even until October, Lao Airlines offers discount fares.

watch out with shared taxis

by korehan

if you plan to take a shared taxi, think again and consider taking the bus if you're less than 4 or giving the few extra bucks for a private taxi if you're more.when they said we'd be 8 + luggages in that toyota camry (what else...) i thought it was just to raise the price (since we'd tried to book the 2 extra seats and turn the shared taxi into a private one).i should have known better... frankly, driving at 110 km/h on the narrow road from kampot to PP with the driver sitting on the knees of one passenger, no safety belt, no rearview mirror, no way to ask him to slow down because of the other passengers being in a hurry. it's pretty simple: you crash, you die

Tuk Tuk Driver Recommendation

by brianwadam

My wife and I had a great Tuk Tuk driver that I would highly recommend to anyone heading to Siem Reap - great guy, very helpful, flexible and spoke good English. We e-mailed back and forth before the trip to set everything up - he set up very resonable lodging for us - picked us up from the airport - with bottled water waiting for us. Then took us all around the temples and out to Tonle Sap for a day.Johnjohn_angkor@yahoo.com
