Minibus

by SUN_69

Minibus is cheap and fast. But there is no elbow room as they squeezed over 26 passengers in and on top of the vehicle. Not recommended unless you like close bonding with the locals in hot sweaty BOs on a 6 - 9 hours journey with only space to wriggle your toes.

mr tola the tuktuk driver

by cigarettebarbie

we found mr tola opposite bou savy guesthouse. he was willing to take 5 people on a tuktuk at a reasonable price of 12-13 a day. we liked him so much we tipped him. he has a nice comfortable tuktuk with black and red strips on the cushion. he is also taking english classes. i liked that

motodup

by cigarettebarbie

we got a motodup driver called chamnan at phnom penh. very hardworking chap, besotted with his younger cousin. speaks reasonable english. if anybody wants his contact private message me, as i have to go get it from my travelmate. we liked him so much that we treated him to dinner. of course, you can rent your own motobike but it mightnt be safe.

Capitol SR to PP

by cigarettebarbie

We took capitol back. unfortunately for us, we were condemned to the back row of the bus. it was a VERY bumpy ride and we joked that the bus ride caused us a slip disc. therefore, if possible, request your guesthouse/vendor to provide seats somewhere in the middle.

mekong Express BOAT from hell

by matt_of_asia

hmm, not recommended by me. if you are into tanning for 6 hours in a nuclear tropical sun, ride on the roof. they like to maximize the cash and overload the boat. I kept thinking of recent malaysian boat tragedies while riding it. If you are into knee-chewing and butt/leg torture go climb into the dungeon inside the boat. no a/c. --Bathrooms according to my wife- pitch black, wet, bad smelling and generally nightmarish. Hey its the third world, dont FORGET it this time!-that being said you can see great views on the way using the boat. perhaps someone else knows a better boat service from Siam reap to Phenom Penh but according to the owner of the hotel who said he recommended the bus (and so do I) (its cheaper and WAY more comfy and better run at 10$ a seat vs the boat- 25$ for what can not really be called a seat.)

Mekong Express Bus

by matt_of_asia

We rode the Mekong express bus and found for 10$US it was quite a good ride. It includes a cake, a water and a Khmer/English speaking commentary guy who tells you the history of sites you pass and what is interesting about different sites you pass. the seats were ok, could recline and the in-bus bathroom was clean enough and the commentary guy would go back and spray and clean after someone used it. not bad for a six hour potentially hellish ride.you can see the farms and temples as you drive along and see the houses that most people live in have the tin shacks on top of stilts... not alot of running water or power lines going on yet. --downside is: the drivers are still pedal to the metal and go go go. Traffic lights are mostly non-existant so dont sit near the front if you dont want to think about it too much. We whacked a cow and that delayed/horrified us with the gore for about 30...

Local Guides are best

by Garfield56

We used Asia Air to avoid the bad road from Thailand to Angkor Wat. We landed in the Capitol and then Bus to Angkor area. Make SURE that your tour guide or hotel picks you up at the bus. The hustler's are So bad, that the buses now use hidden bus lots. As our bus unloaded, they were attempting to push open the gates. Most of the Hotels are very nice, and due to the expensive cost of electric, make sure your Hotel generates their own electric, or u might be without lights after 9 P.M. We used a personal tour guide we selected from "WWW. CambodianTourGuides.com ", and had a great and interesting trip. Local foods were OK, but extreme care with Ice made from unfiltered water, or ice blocks kept in dirty ice chests. Angkor Wat was very beautiful, but unless ur sure on your feet, do not attempt the climb up to the top of the main temple. Up was OK, but the climb down makes you wonder if the...

Crossing Tonle Sap lake

by Nega

Travelling from Siem Reap to Battambang or Pnom Penh can easily be done by slowboat. The lake itsef is a wonderful surprise. The scenery is wonderful, the trip incredibly laid back, there is usually a stop on the way with lunch in a village in the middle of the lake. During the rainy season the size of the lake quadrupples and the submerged forests are excellent breading grounds for the local fish. If you like villages without cars, this is the place.

Mekong Express - Siem Reap to Phnom Penh (Coach)

by ECYM

We took Mekong Express from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh and v.v. Foreigner pays USD 9 while local pays USD 7 for this bus company. Some other companies costs lesser dollars. The bus has three departures from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (V.V.)0730, 0830 and 1230. The bus has a hostess serving us a bottle of water and some bread for each of us. The coach is also en suite with a restroom which is pretty well maintained. The route by bus takes 6 hours with a half hour stop for lunch (at Aranus Restn) at Kompong Thom. There's a market behind the restaurant where you can find some local fares. Each bowl of noodle costs 1500 riel from the local food stall.By the way, the air-conditioning of the new buses are pretty strong, so it is advisable to have your sweater with you, it may come in handy.Another point to add is that, the bus company offers free pick up from your hotel to the bus terminal. May be a...

Bull Cart

by muddybok

I'm just kidding, this is not for tourists. The local will utilize these bull carts to collect harvest from the field. I believe they usage will surely more than that. Probably use for "shopping" as well??FYI, these buffalos are considered the most eco-friendly work machines for people of Cambodia, where plowing the land, fertilise the soil and other tasks that need many horse powers. You'll see some farmer bring home the very last straw from the field after the harvest for household repairs and also feeding the buffalos during planting season.
