Prostitution

by Homanded

Prostitution is very common throughout Asia, specially targeted are the single men who will readily be approached by TukTuk drivers, Taxi drivers or, the girls themselves. When walking down the street, don't be surprised when the Tuk Tuk drivers call out to you and yell: "Haloooo, Mr....want girl?"They will have a "notebook" - often with pictures and a convinient cellphone with which to make a date for you. Please gentlemen, the Cambodian people do not need this kind of exploitation. Also, disease is rampant throughout Asia. Be responsible and respectful. Smile, say 'NO THANK YOU" and walk on by.

Steep climb for Sunset

by Homanded

The popular "Sunset Hill" which everyone eludes to though beautiful is a very steep climb, made doubly difficult by the roots, rocks and human obstacles lining the way. This is where we were first introduced to the begging in Cambodia. They congregate here along it's steep path. Just about everywhere you stop to catch your breath, you're swarmed by people wanting money or selling trinkets.Be aware that, once on top, you never ACTUALLY get to see a sunset. The guards will kick you out before the sun sets due to the perilous climb back down which you would have to do in the dark.An easier option may be the Elephants to the hilltop. All in all, we enjoyed our time there but, there are so many nicer places in Angkor...

Intimidating Police in Temples

by Homanded

At some temples you may encounter a Police officer flashing a badge in your face.It happens quite suddenly, our initial reaction was that he was trying to stop us for a violation of some sort....The police officer then stuck his hand out and asked for "dollar". We realized he was begging and walked around him but he was quite persistent. WALK AWAY, ignore him. Another tourist we ran into later actually was scared enough by the cop to opt walking through the outside of the temple on his way back to the main entrance.

Airport Taxes

by steve28

Be aware that to get into Cambodia it will cost you 20$US per person and to get our it will be 25$US You will also need 2 passport size picture to take with you for the visa but you only use one. The immigration people are very thorough and you will be web cammed when you enter and leave so be prepared for a slow process

Beggars

by bluesparkle

There are so many beggars in Cambodia. From people just holding their hand (if they have one) or trying to sell you stuff you don't want. There is not much to do about it, just ignore is the best.If you want to help the people of cambodia, donate some of your dollars in the boxes of the red cross. You can find those boxes in alot of places.

annoying people : tuk-tuk drivers

by prikje

Once you step out of your hotel every 10 meters you get the annoying phrase "Tuk-Tuk " Sir ?After a 100 times politely declining you get prety nervous for over and over again having to say no.Impossible to make a romatic strole around town !If you stop in a busstation they overrun you with tens of drivers pushing and screaming "Taxi" , " Where you go " , "He mister".Better get you luggage,go away from the crowd and negotiate a better price for where you wanna go without 10 of their colleagues shouting at the same time

annoying people : beggars

by prikje

Don't give money to street beggars you get overrun by lots of them if they see you give something. And trust me they do see every move you make! The Cambodians are masters in ripping you off and begging like professionals in Angkor and Phnom Penh.I watched a group of kids while sitting in a pub and saw how they went to pick up there little sister and head for a ignorant tourist to collect with the phrase " Njam Njam".After they cash in,they jumped on a tuk-tuk bought some glue or something and inhaled it with a plastic bag.Check out the AAD organisation if you wanna help the locals.

Watch Out for Traffic

by Gage17

Unreal. How there are not head-on collisions and a variety of other traffic-related accidents at the intersections of Phnom Penh's streets on a daily basis is beyond me. I have never seen anything like this in my life.... if the way is momentarily clear, go ahead and cross despite "right-of-way"... need to make a right turn from the left lane, feel free... gotta cross traffic to turn left at a T-intersection? Just turn into opposing traffic until you see a break in the flow in the direction you'd like to go in. What I'm saying is - WATCH OUT! I like to walk everywhere, but it took me two days to get used to walking around Phnom Penh without high blood pressure. Mototaxis are cheap and will get you there faster, but just be aware of the above "rules of the road", close your eyes, and know that you will eventually get there.

Pickpocket attack tuktuk, beware!

by dhei

ok, this is what my tuktuk driver said: hold your bags and make them secure from the sides where motorcycle can grab it. They are usually students who are going to home. So, it's best for you to beware on these young, school dress (uniform) boys.

Travel in Phnom Penh at Night

by PA68

It goes without saying that you should be using a moto to get around at night in Phnom Penh. Street lighting is limited and walking about will make you more of a target for robbery. However, don't be surprised if your moto drirer doesn't take the most obvious route back to your guesthouse. As you can see from this photo, some of the roads in Phnom Penh aren't that great and you don't want to be driving along those on a moto in the dark.
