Having just started with this site, I decided to share some of my pictures.. When you walk, rather than getting a bus (even if it drops you at your door) there is always plenty to see everywhere you look.
Fondest memory: The scam girls in the streets trying to chat you up. ^_^
The website below contains maps of famous tourist attractions in Beijing, including the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, The Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace ....
Very clear and useful! You can get an overview of each site in Beijing.
Some of them are really special, hard to find elsewhere!
Fondest memory: Beijing is a fascinating mix of ancient and modern!
Here are two different versions of Beijing Map which show the central area of Beijing.
You can see some of the major tourist attractions on the map:
- Tiananmen Square
- Chairman Mao Memorial Hall
- Forbidden City (Imperial Palace Museum)
- Temple of Heaven
As Beijing is an everchanging city, I think it's very useful to have a map. Generally, it's quite easy to get around and Beijingers tend to give indications by saying directions (North to that building, East to ... etc.)
Also, the map contains all the bus routes that operate in Beijing although it's all squeezed in a part of the map making it hard to read.
Maps usually cost 2 RMB (I bought my first one at 4 RMB from a street vendor!!) and can be bought everywhere, from newspaper stands to people selling them on the streets.
Have a map written in English. Even you get it, you can be lost. Fortunatly, the signs of the streets are also in European letters.
Fondest memory: I paid to get it.
For you, it is free.
