Steaks and eggs serves both Chinese and Western Food. An ideal place for breakfast (all day) and lunch with an ugly American ;-). Menu in two languages, staff speaks English, helpful. Food was good, also good presented.
Favorite Dish: The coffee brew was reasonable - but I'm critical at this - and I had two refills. The scrambled eggs were good, as was the fruit.

Paul has opened a second Steak and Eggs on Guangshun Bei Lu, out in the Beigao suburbs in expat country.
This updated review results in a serious downgrading of the satisfaction level here. Twice now we have been disappointed by the service and now, this last weekend, came close to walking out. The food order was completely messed up and the waitress blamed it on us (we had commented at the time that she wasn't writing it down!!) and then the manageress told us that it was our fault because (and I quote) "the menu is completely wrong". Jeez!!!
With a number of shops and restaurants moving in around the ever-expanding Western Academy of Beijing campus, it is no surprise that Paul, the ever affable Canadian decided to expand to the 'burbs. Paul opened the first Beijing Steak and Eggs by accident when SARS prevented him from travelling around China on a planned holiday! (The orginal S&E is in Daytona Beach).
Favorite Dish: Typical and substantial diner fare, including all-day breakfasts, fry-ups, grits, oatmeal, big mugs of "Paul's special coffee' and pie to finish it off.

Beijing's only (?) American diner, Steak and Eggs is a good place for brunch.
They have a massive diner-style menu under the glass table tops, and it's all "home-cooking style and never mind the chloresterol".
The restaurant recently came runner up in the 'That's Beijing' 2004 Restaurant of the Year competition, but this is taking it all a bit too far: yes, good pancakes, bacon and fried eggs...but the second best restaurant of the year? I think not. It also won best service, which is just laughable. Every time I have been there, one or more dishes have been missed or were late, or the coffee never turned up (today) despite asking three times.
In the winter try and avoid the outer room as the cold air rushes in through the badly-fitting front doors.
Sunday brunch (yes it won that as well) is always packed out, so come early or be prepared to wait.
Favorite Dish: Everything is pretty good...staple jumbo all-day breakfast, pancakes and a huge variety of pies.
