| Beijing Zoo & Aquarium tips and photos posted by real travelers and Beijing locals. Xizhimen • 69 Photos • 31 Reviews See all Beijing Things To Do | | Beijing Beijing Zoo & Aquarium Reviews | 1 - 10 of 31 | | Id like to start by insisting that i do not like to see animals pent up in tiny, inhumane conditions, where the cages are regularly filfthy and disgusting. And that is the state of Beijing Zoo, one of the largest in the world. The actual site is not too bad, although there maybe a few too many stalls selling panda hats and flags etc. Why i recommend visiting, is purely because of the vast range of animal species. Fair enough it wasnt top of my list, but i certainly enjoyed it. The New Aquarium is huge, and by far the best part. Being so intimate with the animals is good to; the fact that the cages are much smaller than in most zoos means you are bound to see them. Definitely make sure you visit the monkey enclosure and the bear pit. And they wont allow you to leave until youve seen the gorgeous Giant Pandas. Leave a Comment Directions: There is a subway stop, Xizhimen, about 1 km east of the zoo and a bus terminal just south of it. Bus #7, which you can catch from Fuchingmen Dajie termintes there. So I wanted to see a panda and the best place for that is the Beijing Zoo! You will see them doing their everyday eating of bamboo leaves, moving slowly about and sleeping. But other than the panda, the zoo also has wonderful flower garden and lotus pools. You will enjoy walking around these scenic grounds! The original name of this zoo. which is located at located in the Xicheng District, was Ten Thousand Animal Garden in 1908. Even during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). plants were cultivated and animals were raised here. Then after the liberation, it was reconstructed and was known as the West Suburb Park. And in 1955, the name became Beijing Zoo. With over 50,000 square meters to fill, the zoo has collections of the Golden Monkey, the White Bear from the North Pole, kangaroos, zebra, lions, tigers and elephants. All in all, it has a collection of more than 600 types of animal species and more than 7, 000 population of animals! Amazing place! The Beijing Zoo is also adjacent to the Beijing Aquarium. The ticket price for each includes the other. The Beijing Aquarium is the largest inland aquarium in the world, and has an Amazon rainforest, a marine mammal pavilion, a shark tank, and a dolphin show Leave a Comment

Beijing Zoo is the second zoo that I went in China. Great to see the pandas this time not behind cage but a glass wall. As usual, the pandas are either snoozing or eating their favorite and only food - bamboo leaves. There are other rare animals in the zoo like the Golden Monkey, lesser pandas, endangered cranes but we only had limited time to explore the zoo. So most of the time was spent with the pandas and Golden Monkey of the southern China.

Five Pagoda Temple (Wutasi) is an Indish looking temple in the north of Beijing Zoo. It has been constructed in 1473. It is a very surprising building, looking very exotic in the middle of modern appartement-houses. It houses the Stone Carving Art Museum. The museum stores about 6000 stone sculptures of different dynasties. Leave a Comment Phone: 62186081Directions: Nortwest of the Zoo

The Aquarium was quite impressive. The tanks of exotic, colourful fish was just beautiful. The shark tank was awesome. They put on two shows, a seal show and then a dolphin show. Very entertaining. Leave a Comment

Nice way to spend a few hours of free time in Beijing. Blue Zoo Beijing was the first walk-through aquarium established in Beijing, the capital of China. Blue Zoo Beijing is the largest aquarium of its type in Asia. The main attraction is the central tank holding 3.5 million litres of artificially produced salt water. A complete eco-system has been created in this tank to allow thousands of fish to live in as natural an environment as possible.

We only went to the zoo to see the panda bears. The panda bears have their own house and this was one of the more modern buildings. I think the rest of the zoo looked out of date. Beijing Zoo also contains an aquarium, but I didn't go there so don't know if it's any good. A crazy story: It was very hot in the zoo the day we went there, and the panda bears didn't move much. A drunk Chinese jumped over the fence and tried to get the panda moving. It worked and he was bitten by one of the bears. Didn't see it, but read about it in the newspaper a couple of days later. Crazy!!!
