Cast in 1755, this statue was also called the "Golden Ox". It was placed here in order to control floods. The 80-word ode entitled "Inscriptions on the Golden Ox" inscribed on its back was written by Emperor Qianlong in traditional, "seal" style calligraphy. It's, of course, a great place to have a photo taken.

You can find the bronze ox by the Seventeen arch bridge and is a symbol associated with flood control. Yu the Great of the Xia Dynasty would place an iron ox onto the river bed after he had finished taming a flood. In later years, an ox was placed beside the river instead. This particular bronze ox was made in 1755.

Few meters of the 17-arch bridge lies a bronze ox with its head raised toward the lake. On the back of the ox is engraved a line from Emperor Qianlong stating that the ox is used to control flooding of the lake. He ordered it cast in 1755.
