You're greeted by a large status of Mao in the entrance hall and where you walk through into the Hall of Weapons which displays tanks, missile launchers, fighter planes and a huge missile in the centre. Other halls include the many campaigns Chinese heroes fought in, a huge amount of guns, pistols and ammunition; and a large collection of captured US fighter planes and tanks.

On the east side of Tian'anmen Square are the Museum of Chinese History and of the Revolution, two museum in one building. The Museum of History covers everything up to 1919.
The Museum of History is worth a visit, though it's intended for the education of the Chinese masses rather than for tourists, so there are no Engish captions. (maybe it changed already).
Without context or explanation visitors find themself wandering the four sections - labelled 'Primitive', 'Slave', 'Feudal' and 'Semi-colonial'.
The Museums are opened from Tuesday - Sunday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
