    Not too sure about the spelling there, but it should come out to something like that. This church, a little bit west of Beihai Park, is one of the most beautiful in Beijing. During certain times, you can only enter in the morning. Apparently, the church is used as a school on some afternoons. Mass is held at the church around 6, 7, and 8 AM Sunday.

  • Directions: It's sort of hard to find. The church is obscurely located in the bend of a small road north of Wenjin St. You can't see the church itself, but you can see the sign for it.

    This attractive church is quite a surprising sight along the shopping street of Wangfujing Dajie. The fact that it's still here is something of a miracle - in its 350 year lifespan it's been destroyed by earthquake, fire, war and was then shut down during the Cultural Revolution. It's now open to the public and one of Beijing's main churches (although it's only open very early in the morning).

    It said that there is eight famous churchs in Beijing, but most well-known is Xishiku church, in Xuan Wu Men. Another one in Wang Fu Jing is also not bad.

    This is the most famous church in Beijing becasue it is in the most famous shopping street - Wang Fu Jing. I need not intro too much. Almost all trourist know this church. So do citizen of Beijing.

    The South Cathedral - an interesting reminder of the millions of Christians still around in China. You have to get there bright and early to catch a mass though, the CCP makes them schedule them for the most inconvenient times (like 5 a.m.). It's open though during the rest of the time and you can take a look around. It's a little sad to see how rundown it is, but you can see what it once was.

    Saint Joseph's Cathedral or also called The East Church was built in 1655 during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was the second Catholic church built in Beijing. Seems to be one of the favorite photo spots - besides the bronze statues in front of Sun Dong An Plaza.

    They lit up gorgeous lightings in the evening.

    This church was originally built in 1655. It has suffered from earthquakes, fire, and war. It underwent a major renovation in 2000. We stopped in the plaza fronting the church and watched some of the Beijing nightlife.

    This is where we heard mass on Christmas Day of 2004. I was surprised to see a lot of Chinese Catholics in this communist country.
