St Michael's Catholic Church is located in Dongjianmin Alley, about 15-minutes walk from Tian'anmen Square. I passed by this church on my way to Wongfujing. This church was built by the French for their own community in Beijing. It was closed during Chinese revolution in 1958, and reopened to the public in 1989. It has a twin-spired with an angel in the middle. It is a Gothic-style architectural church. Not very big, but beautiful!!

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the South Cathedral, is a historic Roman Catholic Church. While the original foundation of the cathedral was in 1605, making it the oldest Catholic church in Beijing, the current building in the Baroque style dates from 1904.
When the Italian Jesuit Matteo Ricci arrived in Beijing, Emperor Wanli permitted him a residence slightly to the west of the site of the current cathedral, in the Xuanwumen district. Attached to this residence was a small chapel, in Chinese style, with only the presence of a cross atop the entrance to distinguish it as a church. This was at the time referred to as the Xuanwumen Chapel. In 1650, under the leadership of the German Jesuit Johann Adam Schall von Bell, work on a new church building was begun on the site of the chapel. The church then became a cathedral in 1690 when it received its first Roman Catholic bishop and was then enlarged in 1703. However, since then the cathedral was gone through a few events. Firstly it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1720. It was then damaged by fire in 1775 and it was raised to the ground during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900.

St Joseph's Church, also known as Wangfujing Cathedral, was built on the site of the former residence of Jesuit Adam Schall von Bell (1591-1669) in 1655 and has been built a number of times after being successively destroyed by an earthquake in 1720, a fire in 1807, and then during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900. Because of its location along Beijing's main shopping road, it's very popular with tourists.

Construction of this protestant church took some 17 years from 1904 to 1921. It was one of the first multiple storey buildings in south Beijing. One of the unique features of the small church is that during religious services the congregation worships on three different floors simultaneously, linked together by an in-house video system.

When visiting the Wangfujing Street shopping district I recommend a quick visit to the St Josephs Church. The church is situated on a large courtyard that seems to make this building all the more imposing.
I read that the Church has recently undergone a "makeover" that cost several million US dollars. This comes after the Churchj has been rebuilt three or four times after being destroyed by fires, earthquakes and the Boxer rebellion.

Saint Joseph's Cathedral or also called The East Church was built in 1655 during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was the second Catholic church built in Beijing. Seems to be one of the favorite photo spots - besides the bronze statues in front of Sun Dong An Plaza.
They lit up gorgeous lightings in the evening.

Not too sure about the spelling there, but it should come out to something like that. This church, a little bit west of Beihai Park, is one of the most beautiful in Beijing. During certain times, you can only enter in the morning. Apparently, the church is used as a school on some afternoons. Mass is held at the church around 6, 7, and 8 AM Sunday.

This church was originally built in 1655. It has suffered from earthquakes, fire, and war. It underwent a major renovation in 2000. We stopped in the plaza fronting the church and watched some of the Beijing nightlife.
