better to buy tickets in the North Side rather than in the Meridian Gate Side as there are less crowds and lines.

    Gilded Bronze Unicom

This gilded bronze unicom is a famous icon in Forbidden City. They can even be found as souvenier items for gifts back home.

    Hall of Great Harmony

It's so easy to get lost in the Forbidden City. Aside from the incredibly vast area it covers, the buildings also look similar! =)

    Meridian Gate

Every hall and gate that lies along the north-to-south line that bisects the Forbidden City has five entrances. Only the emperor could pass through the middle entrance.

This has some wonderful porcelain pieces from 200BC. I was most impressed with actually seeing some real Ming Porcelain.

    Stone Carvings

    by meteorologist1 Written Sep 24, 2003

The Forbidden City has a lot of stone carvings. These carvings can often be found next to stairways. They are finely carved and depict objects that bring luck such as the dragon.
