Qin an Dian, also known as the Hall of Imperial Peace is the major building in the Imperial Garden in the inner court of the forbidden city. It is the Taoist site where the Taois Water God Zhenwu is enshrined, It is here where the qin emperors burn incense and pay homage to the taoist gods and also during taoist festivals and rituals. It is a large part of the imperial garden in the inner court.

Here, we were told , once lived 1000 concubines and as many as 1500 eunichs. Stolling the quiet narrow passage ways you had to wonder what life was like for these women who lived behind these walls. This was a strictly off bounds area for all outsiders. Within these walls the Emperor lived until the 1700's.

The Inner Court is the square which sits between the Meridian Gate and the Gate of Supreme Harmony. This is the largest square in the palace complex and before important ceremonies, Guards of honour would line up in this.

The three main halls in the Inner Court are the Hall of Celestial Purity, the Hall of Union and Peace, and the Hall of Terrestrial Tranquility. The picture shows the front chamber of the Hall of Celestial Purity, where the emperor attended to state affairs almost everyday.
