Badaling grat wall by bebejepang After one week warm autumn in Beijing, suddenly snow fall in Badaling. There are a lot of of stores sell gloves or hats, but quite expensive because they know that you need it. Entrance gate for walking is different with that for cable car. Make sure that you select the right direction. Nov 2008, ticket for walking costs 40 yuan, 7.30-17.00. The ticket is a postcard included a stamp. There are a lot of buses 919 from Deshengmen (500 m east of Jishuitan subway), but only one will go to Badaling. Write down the great wall badaling in chinese, make it easy to ask people for the corret bus. Bus depart every half hour from 5.50 am and return from Badaling until 18.30. Trip takes 90 min, cost 12 yuan (have discount for Yikatong-IC card user).

Easy way up by oerkenbo At Badaling there's an option of taking a luge-like chained cable-car that takes you to the 4th Watch Tower. (The highest one is the 8th) The roundtrip fare is RMB 60. I took it only because of the 3-hour time constraint we had. Otherwise it really wasn't necessary at all. The worst thing is that the cable car is inside the Bear Park, which is just sad sad sad. Why Chinese monuments are always accompanied by these theme-park setups that are at best tacky and distasteful, is truly incomprehensible. Leave a Comment

Badaling Great Wall in winter by lgh Badaling Great Wall. Not so crowded during the winter but it sure is chilly and windy there. Be sure to bring in warm jackets and ear muffs and gloves during the winter. It still is a great experience though to climb the great wall. Leave a Comment

me on Great Wall at Badaling by woosha708 I visited the Great Wall at Badaling. It was a perfect day and a long walk, but worth all the work. I was amazed to see some elderly Chinese still trekking up the wall. Yes, UP the wall, because it can get kinda steep in places. Note: buy water beforehand (expensive at the top) and do your shopping outside the wall entrance for better deals (e.g. $1 Tshirts). Leave a Comment

The Great Wall by geekgrrl I was not prepared to be as awestruck and amazed as I was upon viewing the Great Wall. Even with the huge crowds that were there when we were, the Great Wall was one of the most magnificent sites I have ever seen. The way the Wall snaked up and down (sometimes very steeply) and around so that it was difficult to follow it, as far as the eye could see was breath-taking. Leave a Comment

by BeeTea In Badaling we took cable car to go up and walked down the wall for about 2 hours until we find the exit gate where our car park. We did it to save time as there's still another place to visit. The wall is really great. If I have a chance to return to Beijing I will go to another section which is less touristy and take time longer to enjoy the view. Leave a Comment Address: Badaling

Les on the Great Wall by gaizee MUST DO: We travelled to Badaling to the Great Wall with our tour guide. This was one of the high lights of our trip to Beijing. It is interesting to see how the grade of the walk way becomes steeper and steeper until it reaches about 60 degrees. We have always heard about the Great Wall and it was fantastic to be able to see it. Leave a Comment

by CLIFFORDK Obviously, this is something not to be missed when visiting China. The part of the wall most visited by tourists to Beijing is Badaling, where most of the restoration of the wall has taken place. Be prepared to climb a lot of steep stairs, which can be quite strenuous if you're not in good shape. And be prepared to see a lot of people and souvenir vendors on the wall, as well as a bunch of souvenir shops along the road leading to the entrance to the wall. Obviously, with the wall itself being about 4,000 miles long, it can't all be seen in a few hours or even in a day. But enough of it can be seen to give you the sense of how amazing an achievement it was for the ancient Chinese, and the people of China are justifiably very proud of it. And for anyone, Chinese or otherwise, climbing the Great Wall is an experience like no other, and a thrill not to be forgotten. Leave a Comment
