by kimtina Rear Lake(HouHai)-one of Shacha Lakes. The Three Rear Lakes (or Shicha Lakes), which include the Shicha Lake or Front Lake (Qianhai), Rear Lake (Houhai) and Jishui Lake, are situated to the north of downtown Beijing between the DiĄŻ anmen (Earthly Peace) Gate and the Deshengmen (Moral Victory) Gate. The lakes were given this name to distinguish them from the two lakes of Zhongnanhai and the lake in Beihai Park. North along the dyke is the gently arched stone Silver Ingot Bridge (Yindingqiao) that marks the boundary between Shicha Lake and Rear Lake. Rear Lake is much large than Shicha Lake. Standing on the bridge looking westward, Rear Lake appears to be a silver river lined by brilliant green willows. It was a great discovery that go to Shicha lake area where is most closed to the common people in old Beijing, after walked out from Gong Wang Fu,We continualy walked on the street where is lined by the green wilows,After 15min.,We found a small park on the right side,I was so surprised by the beautiful sounds of the birds from the park,Sounds so nice,We decided to get into park and have a look,Actually there were number of old people were sitting on the chairs in the park and chating there.Their birds on the basket were hung on the trees and happily singing together. said goodbye with the birds,we saw a beautiful lake front of us and my friend saied this is houhai(rear lake) which we wanted to come,(Actually,Our purpose place was Rear lake but we thought it's little bit farer),There were lots of people were fishing on the lakeside,After walking along the lake,We arrived to the west side of the lake,We sat in a restaurent nearby where we could have a very nice view of the lake and the park,After having the beer and barbecue and delicious chinese food in the restaurent we finally left to boating on the lake under the sunset. We used the normal hand boat, but I saw there were also very nice traditional boats on the lake with the traditional dressed Chinese girl play PiPa(lute) front of the boat and a chinese guy paddle on the afterbody of the boats. It's looks also so nice,I am so interested to try it next time.:) Leave a Comment Directions: Shacha Lakes are situated to the north of downtown Beijing between the Di'anmen (Earthly Peace) Gate and the Deshengmen (Moral Victory) Gate.

by travlingal We took the HuTong Tour and would recommend it. A visit to the tiny streets where people live as they have for generations. We road through the alleyways in pedal power rickshaws to visit a quad home, a marvelous daycare center and school. Leave a Comment

by eho Check out the alleys There are some narrow alleys (called hutong in Mandarin) outside of the Forbidden Palace. I took this quick shot just before being hurried back on to the tour bus.

All the guide books tell you to do it, so go for a wander around the Hutongs. I was there in the spring festival, and it was very cold, so there wasn't a lot going on in the hutongs - most people were indoors! But it's interesting for a wander. Going north from Wanfujing you can walk through hutongs to the Bell and Gong towers. These towers are not as impressive as the ones in Xi'an for instance, but they're still worth seeing. This museum was the former home of the famous 20th century Chinese writers, Lao She. Lao was the writer of Tea House and Rickshaw Boy. Lao unfortunatlly commited suicide by throwing himself into Beijing Lake during the Cultural Revolution, after suffering injustice and persecution from the leftists. The enterence fee is Y5 and the museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from (:00 to 17:00. Note that the captions in the museum are only in Chinese. Leave a Comment Address: 19 FengFu HuTong, Beijing
