China Temporary Driving Permit
I had to admit this forum was usefull , hence i want to give my cent of experience with China Temporary Driving Permit.
I have landed in Beijing Airport at 8am in Terminal 3.
Then i went down to the Floor 1 ( where you can easily see all the bus stops/station outside)
in this floor you should find "Motor Vehicle xxxx xxxx", just go there and you will see a room like 4 meter wide 6meter width.with 2 desks and officer are using police uniform
make sure you prepare this:
1. 20 RMB cash
2. 3x Passport foto 2cm x 3 cm (background white).. or anything close this this dimension
3. 2x copy in A4 paper of your Original Driving License (back and front)
4. 2x copy in A4 paper of Passport page (where you name and foto is there)
5. 2x copy in A4 paper of Passport VISA page
you give this all to them except the money ...
then they will help you to fill some forms... one of the form is the Health Check
Bring that Health check form to the 2nd Floor (Arrival level) in First Aid office
One of the nurse will check your eyes and hearing ( make sure you bring the proper glasses to let them pass you the test)
if everything ok ..they will attached your Foto, signed and stamped.
Bring this down to the "Motor Vehicle xxx xxx" office again ..and just give all doc to them
in 30 minutes they will give you 30 days of Temporary Driving License (Brown colour)
with this you can borrow Car and drive in Beijing.
Note: the officer will tell you that this can be used in Beijing, but i did use it in other area and so far no issue.
Good Luck ..
Good to share to others ..
Hiring a car in Beijing (or anywhere in China) is not that easy. If you can get a Chinese-issued driving license, then you can hire one and drive by yourself. If you can’t get that license, then you can rent a car but it will include a driver.
The good news is that some recent legislation enables now you, the foreigner (the lao3 wai4), to get a temporary license valid for 3 months. Just take advantage of this benefit, my friend.
For more information about this and about hiring a car, you can visit the follow website.
What is more reassuring than renting a car from a world-class brand that you are so familiar with?

Have an enjoyable stay in Beijing!
According to LP guidebook it seemed a very complicated thing getting by public transport to Mutianyu Great Wall. Neverthless we decided to give it a chance. We got by taxi to Dong Zhi Men coach station in order to find out how. There a local guy called Mr Liang, holding a sign promoting his shuttle service to Great wall stopped us. I was about to ignore him but luckily my travelmate started negotiating the price. I can't recall the price (not too expensive) but thank god we did it. Not only we travelled there in our own pace but also by the time Mutianyu Wall opened to visitors. So we were able to wander around in almost complete serenity.
You will find him towards the Dong Zhi Men coach station in Beijing. His destinations are to any part of great wall and his moni van can host up to 20 persons
Zheng Winter (his nick name, he was born in the middle of a cold winter) owns a brand new car and took us on an excursion to Chengde. He speaks good english, is a tour guide with certificate and knows his way around. We had a lovely - very long - day trip (the express way was said to be open and looked finished, but part of it wasn't open, so we had to drive for about two hours on local roads). If you're seaking a reliable guide : this can be your man. Call hem at 8613911878644 or email@example.com
I have stayed in Jiu Hua Spa&Resort near Beijing (with my family) for 6 days. I used the services of Robinson Li tours for travelling at major Beijing sites. As related to other chinese people (who should knew english as lomg they work in tourism) the english spoken by his team is excellent. Thery can solve also all kind of accommodation problems helping you as translator. The program is flexible, so we have made a very good choice. The price of 88-1000RMB per day is the best one as related to his flexible program and additional services. It is true, I could find a taxi driver with less money, ...but I wonder whether they help you all problems which could appear at check-in and check-out at hotel.

(From: www.at0086.com, a comprehensive Chinese information town.)
Our cruiser stopped at Xingang port (in Tianjin city), it's a long distance from Beijing city.
we booked a car through hotelguidechina.com, $160 from the port to Beijing, much better price than the cruiser offer.
some one took train from Tianjin to Beijing, but the train station is not close by the port, so we think book a car transfer is a better way to get Beijing.
We rented a car to bring us around Beijing. It's much more convenient and better than booking yourself in the local tours where they bring you to the tourist sites and tourist shops to get ripped off.
This driver (Robinson Li) which we used was really quite good. He speaks reasonable english and gave us pretty good account of the historical sites (Tiananmen Sq, Forbidden City, Summer Palace etc).
Though it's not the cheapest around (he charges us about 800rmb for 4 people for a full day tour), it's still quite reasonable compared to the other tours.
On the second day, we booked a taxi for the whole day at 360RMB to the Ming Tombs' Sacred Way, Badaling Great Wall, Summer Palace and Qianmen.
The cab driver must be pretty new and was polite and friendly. It would seems that it was his first whole day booking.
If you are the first time visitor for Beijing as well as other part of China, I would not encourage you to choose rental car as the way touring the city!
The driving culture in China is quite new, there is tremendous increase of the car on road since these 3-4 years, at least 60% of the drivers are new drivers , I can't give too much compliments to our driving skills! Sincerely speaking , I would saying I don't enjoy driving in the city anymore , and I would dare to say that it is one of the difficult places in the world to drive.
The rental fee for a car is quite cheap, less than RMB300 for a day in general. I would suggest you to hire a taxi if you are a "luxury" traveller. You can get a taxi 8 hours reserved for you for leass than RMB600. It's more safe and you don't need to worry about parking!
Roads are in a fairly good condition. At least the one leading to the airport as it has a toll (see picture with that awesome chinese toll-gate!) but also the one going to The Great Wall (Badaling)!
