Beijing Capital Museum

by victorwkf

Beijing's new Capital Museum is relatively new and is located on Fuxingmenwai Dajie, the western extension of Beijing's Chang'an Jie.The museum is a five-storey building allowing for a maximum of 13 concurrent exhibitions, which can be viewed in about 5 hours at the price of 20 yuan (US$2.50) per visitor. It tellss the story of ancient Beijing, which has served as a capital city for more than 850 years and the Chinese capital, more or less, since the mid-17th century. It is expected to receive as many as 2,000 visitors per day.The Capital Museum is second only to China National Museum in terms of size.It will provide an English language city museum map and currently gives English-language museum brochures. Some information will be provided in Japanese. It also has other useful services such as a free cloak desk and a well-stocked museum shop. The original museum was situated in the...

Badaling Great Wall & Ming Tombs

by victorwkf

The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest architecture feat of mankind and not to be missed when you are in Beijing. It is conveniently located about 2 hours north of Beijing, the most famous section being the Badaling section of the great wall. Also included in the day tour is a visit to the impressive tombs of the emperors of the Ming Dynasty (about 1300AD to 1644AD). The best way is to join a 1 day tour with a English speak guide, which can be arranged at your hotel for about US$50 including lunch. More information and photographs of Badaling Great Wall and Ming Tombs are at my VT Badalingzhen page.

The Great Wall

by hindu1936

So widely known I won't go into details other than to mention it is one of two man-made artifacts that can been seen from space: the other is a sanitary landfill. The Great Wall is much more attractive. The hucksters are here as well, selling T-shirts, neckerchiefs, etc. Bring water. you can get a phto of yourself wearing Mongol clothing, riding a camel. The way is steep, the cobbles are sometimes loose, be careful, pace yourself and drink lots of water.

Church of St.Joseph/Dongtang Cathedral

by muddybok

This church is built stunning and is stone throw away from Wanfujing shopping area. At noon time, the cathedral compound will be becoming a youngsters’ hangout, especially skater boys and BMX kids.Church service in Chinese and LatinI wouldn't have found this spot to hang out for awhile if wasn't because of I arrive early at Wanfujing for VT meet organised by sugarpuff & Rinaneo.I also happened to won some Columbia merchandises for participate in one of the product launch events. I got more free goodies when they found out am wearing a Columbia windbreaker when i was playing the game. My lucky day eh!

Yan Hui Ge.....Next!!!

by muddybok

In the past, the Emperor will be the first to choose all the best women. Until or unless the king has made his selection, all the young girls are forbid to fall in love to any man, let alone marry someone.Being selected by king in fact is not a good thing because they may not live to see the outside world ever again. And Yen Hui Ge is the place where the king will make his selection.Ladies are often treated like commodity and those wonderful palace lifestyles depicted in Taiwanese productions are all so unreal.

Summer Palace - Long Corridor

by muddybok

The Summer Palace Long Corridor, a covered promenade running for 728 meters along the northern shore of Kunming Lake. It is the longest garden corridor in China, and along the corridor it has more than 8,000 paintings on the in traditional Chinese style.I don't think anyone will walk the whole corridor if it's not raining day. In fact, it's nice to walk on the pave along the lake and there are many beautiful flowers along the way while you walking from one end of the corridor to another.

Acrobats Show

by muddybok

I don't know how much the acrobatic show cost. It has been included in the company's paid tour. Some of the stuns are quite original & challenge human flexes to the maximum. This is a government run joint. Most tourists will either end up at this Acrobatic play or another Opera Show (like my mother). One of my blur-sotong colleagues lost his wallet in this theater and when called up the theater, they responded that the wallet is found. When the wallet is recovered from the theater, surprisingly nothing lost and we were told that none of the theater workers dare to steal from things (especially wallets) that lost and found in the theater. Reason being the investigation will be carry out on officers who found the lost items if any complain received. In order to keep the job in government run joints, they must maintain their clean records. Anyway happened, they will be first to go & many...

The great wall

by Shup

The best way to see all the places around beijing is to use the buses for local travelers. We did exactly what were written in ou travell guide. There are many stations that every morning buses leaves to all hot spots of Beijing. You will see 2 places with the great wall, Ming tombs. For my opinion Ming tombs aren't very expresive, but the wall is realy great. All day trip costs 100Yuan and doesn't include entarence fees. I advise you to return alittle before the appointed time, because all Chinese tourist will be there ~15 minutes before

Sunday cooking fun for your kids

by beaverk

Zone de Comfort, a classy restaurant with excellent Fusion cuisine, in this case a bit of French and Asian, really friendly staff, and a special treat for the parents and kids during the weekend lunch -Kids from three years old and up can enjoy learning how to cook from pasta to cookies to BBQ in a fun setting well thought out by the restaurant. During weekend lunch Zone de Comfort also serves a fairly decent buffet so parents can finally have some down time. Relax and have a quiet meal while their kids are off to doing a little cooking on their own.The few times we have been there the restaurant gets fairly crowded with plenty of kids having fun playing with balloons, cooking, etc...The buffet is 100 RMB per adult.Good food and excellent dessert.

Tip Photo
The Station

by muddybok

I believe this is an old train station from its architectural design. The Station is located near the Tiananmen Square and some of the road facing outlets had been converted to convenient stores or some mobile phone outlets.I didn't see any rail tracks around the area except some walkways leading to subway stations. So, the diesel powered train might have been totally irrelevant for city transportation purposes, but intercity routes.
