The Great Wall

by amsailing

When we went to the Great Wall this January. It was snowing, a bit cold. But the experience was amazing. It's so beautiful and peaceful. There is a surreal atmosphere, partly because there were so few people. We could really enjoy the views and a nice stroll. The walk itself is a little trying occasionally due to the snowing but it’s all worth it. The feeling that we were walking on the most famous architecture in the world is beyond words. Compared to another trip made in a summer when we were jammed together with hundreds if not thousands of tourists, this is ten times better.

Panda @Beijing Zoo

by muddybok

Don't get me wrong. I didn't say that origin of panda is Beijing, but you can see them in Beijing Zoo.Special ticket will be required for panda section. Normal ticket will only allow you to observe other caged animals, but not pandas.Facts about Giant PandaInhabiting the western part of Sichuan, the southern slopes of Qinling Mountains, Shannnxi and Wenxian County of Gansu, it is rare and precious indigenous animal of China.Due to different habitat and climate in the wild, the giant panda generally lives in alpine bamboo forests 1200-3500 meters above sea level, where there is adequate rainfall, rich water resource and suitable temperature. It is good at climbing trees and also likes to play in the snow. Its main food is various kinds of bamboo growing in the mountains. It is a rather gentle animal and generally does not attack people on its own initiative. It is solitary except during...

Wangfujing Hawker Street

by muddybok

There are 2 eat out hawker streets at Wangfujing. But this is provide seating/standing eat out experience for tourist like us. I have been to this street twice, once in the night and the other time during day time. My pals & I were practically eaten up the whole street including scorpions, animals' internal organs, grills meats or squids. Some of them ever shocked tasting ma-lak the first time and leaving them with numb mouths whole night.

Hou Hai

by muddybok

Beijing Hou Hai is now replacing the "happened"-ing Sanlitun with almost close to 100 bars that luring yuppies to frequent the place. Most of the bars in Hou Hai open at all time for people like me. Unfortunately, I wasn't too well to come to this place to get drunk during my stay in Beijing.

Tip Photo
Hu Tong

by muddybok

In Beijing, Hu Tong let you see the typical lifestyle in olden imperial period. I read that most of the residents of these hu tongs were imperial kinsmen and aristocrats. You can tell of their position by looking at their door decorative "tang" beam on top of their door (up to maximum of five), explain by my tour guide.

Tip Photo
Yuanmingyuan

by muddybok

I am not too sure whether they are practicing on their own, or they actually hired by the park to show they exception showmanship to attract more people. Of course some people still walks on their writing. I saw an old man wrote excellent Chinese writing on the pave, but was totally amazed when I saw a younger man write two rows of Chinese poems that mirrored every character.

Tip Photo
Palace Museum - Back Entrance

by muddybok

Of course the Palace Museum entrances are not limiting to only one. Most people will be entering from Tiananmen Gate. Of course you can enter from Shen Wu Gate. Again you're not necessary must exit from the other end and you can so choose to walk back to retrieve you car (if you drive one). The Palace Museum in fact should be allotted 1 complete day for detailed tour, but most package tours will rush you running through all the gates in 2.5 hours time.

Who's the Boss?

by muddybok

There are a lot of interpretations of these imperial guardian lions, especially the one seem stepping on the cub with it left paw. I personally like one of this bullsh!t by a Chinese guide** that it symbolise the King has all the power to restrict his concubines. By stepping on the tiny cub (little concubine), the King is telling the world that his is the boss.In fact the forceful guardian lion also mean all the men should stay away from His women and his women don’t even dream of escaping the palace. Cool bullsh!t right?Note**: He is not my guide. Although am on package tour, I always gone disappear from the group after 2 minutes. Don't know why!?

Path fit for Ten Thousand Year (King)

by muddybok

I am not too sure whether the King will actually walk on this. It's not flat with those engraved on the stone, but definitely gives good traction. Of course ordinary people will not get the chance to step on them (except sweeper may be) because there are images of most sacred creatures were engraved on them. It also partly symbolise the King is above all else, that he can step all over them.

Gate of Heavenly Peace?

by muddybok

Tiananmen Square is located at the center of Beijing City, and is a must visit for everyone who are visiting Beijing for the first time. Beside the Square, you can visit Tiananmen Tower, Great Hall of the People, Monument to the People's Heroes, Mao's Memorial Hall and of course access to Forbidden City via the Tiananmen Gate.Of course everyone who is visiting Tiananmen Square (especially foreigners) will definitely curious about what was actually happened to Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. There are debates about bloodbath, some claimed that no one was killed in the square. One thing for sure is Chinese government did conducted widespread arrests to suppress the remaining supporters of the movement after the protest.
