Path fit for Ten Thousand Year (King)

by muddybok

I am not too sure whether the King will actually walk on this. It's not flat with those engraved on the stone, but definitely gives good traction. Of course ordinary people will not get the chance to step on them (except sweeper may be) because there are images of most sacred creatures were engraved on them. It also partly symbolise the King is above all else, that he can step all over them.

Gate of Heavenly Peace?

by muddybok

Tiananmen Square is located at the center of Beijing City, and is a must visit for everyone who are visiting Beijing for the first time. Beside the Square, you can visit Tiananmen Tower, Great Hall of the People, Monument to the People's Heroes, Mao's Memorial Hall and of course access to Forbidden City via the Tiananmen Gate.Of course everyone who is visiting Tiananmen Square (especially foreigners) will definitely curious about what was actually happened to Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. There are debates about bloodbath, some claimed that no one was killed in the square. One thing for sure is Chinese government did conducted widespread arrests to suppress the remaining supporters of the movement after the protest.

Forbidden City

by muddybok

The Forbidden City is located at the exact center of the City of Beijing; it was the imperial palace for many dynasties after the Ming. You will not see the name Zijin Cheng (literally "Purple Forbidden City") written anywhere, but it's now being called Palace Museum or Gugong. Forbidden City covered extensive grounds of 720,000 square meters, 800 buildings and 9,999.5 rooms. (it must not more than 10,000 rooms as compare to mythical Jade Emperor's Palace). The Forbidden City is listed by UNESCO with largest preserved ancient wooden structures in the World, and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987.

Red Wall

by muddybok

I think everybody must be aware that walls painted in red will be most well represented Greater China. These walls were previously speak about authority (of course now still), close world (now open) and lots of bureaucratic and corruptions. But now it represents new order, economy, and opportunities.

Great Wall Sled lift

by urban4est

Finally after feeling satisfied that I had climbed the Great Wall we headed back. Be careful those steps are steep going down. The final descent uses the sled lift that brought us up onto the wall. This is great fun dfor the kids. You don't have to worry because the sleds go down in groups with a park guide in the lead so the kids can't speed. You have control of a lever that can slow the sled too.

A Wall like a fort

by urban4est

Here you can see how the wall is actually like the outer wall of a fort or castle. It is all made of cut stone. Throughout the legnth of it it is built to hide from the enemy and lean out to use a bow. Because the stone walk way would be unusable if rain flooded it there are stone spills to drain it off.

On and On and On and........

by urban4est

As you look at the nearby mountains you will see the wall snaking over the crests. Some areas repaired and others have missing stones and grass growing on them. All of these stones had to be carried and put in place.

Climb the Great Wall

by urban4est

When they say climb they mean climb. Everywhere I went in China I found steps. The worse were at the Great Wall. High Stone Steps it seemed as far as I could see.And they weren't much easier coming down then going up. Imagine the soldiers with all of their gear running up them to reinforce a section under attack.

The Great Wall of China

by urban4est

The wall is a must see as one of the most famous man made wonders in the world. The wall is called The Long Wall by the Chinese. The difference in name seems to reflect the difference in how westerners and Chinese regard the wall. The wall has been added to over the centuries but was almost always was used to prevent Northern Barbarians from entering China, at which it failed. In the 1940's the Kuomintang repaired sections to use for moving troops.Today many parts are being preserved as a tourist attraction. At the gate there are even old style soldiers and performers. Be sure to get your I Climbed the Great Wall T-Shirt.

People madness in the capital!!!!

by sugarpuff

Where you'll find it? Everywhere! When you'll find? Everyday!!! When best to avoid it? Chinese New Year (Jan-Feb), Worker's holiday (May 1st) and China's National Day (October 1st)...that is of course if you want to be PART of it!!!!I personally LOVE seeing so many people in the capital as you can feel there's something exciting in the air...but on the downside, having so many people walking around with maps and getting in your way is a real pain!
