As with other cities in China there seemed to be a regular crowd of street exercisers to be found. I remember being impressed by a very old man that had a huge sword!! He moved it it through the air beautifully and effortlessly. Sadly I didn't take any photos of the exercisers in Chongqing. You'll have to come and take your own!! The photo that I've used is an out of focus photo of a guy in the market.
You won't see a lot of Heavy Machinery that is very common in the west. These guys were loading the truck shovel by shovel. They were at the edge of the Yangtze River. As this photo was taken in 1987 maybe there have been some advances in the technology used now. And after the Huge Yangzte Dam project is finished there will be lot's of equipment that is not being used.
This guy was proud of his noodles when I asked if you could take a photo he said sure and picked up a handful of noodles. He caught me totally by surprise with his willingness! The other vendors that were around him all had a good laugh!!
This is not a custom but thought I would share with you what funny little people these are.
Walking around CQ you will come across many times people taking their birds for walks. Not sure when this originated but they carry their bird cages down to the the park where they hang them on trees for an hour or two.
I guess this is a nice idea - gives the bird a chance to get out of the house. It is quite amusing to see but gives you an idea of how kind-hearted Chongqing people are.
If you have nothing to do, like many people in ChongQIng, just stand around and gaze at the foreigners walking by. Or stare back at them looking at you. Or you could start a gambling ring like these guys pictured above.
Especially during the rcord high summer heat of 2006 the people of Chongqing enjoyed a cool bath in the Jangtse River!
Isnt this a cute way to take your baby/grandchild with you? Between all the fancy new skyscrapers there still is a traditional rural touch alive in Chongqing ;-)
Everywhere we went we were impressed with the amount that can be carried by bicycle!! The guy in the picture can't even be seen as he has so much loaded on.
