Favorite thing: Longyan in Western Fujian stretches 19,000 square kilometers, accounting for 15.7 percent of Fujian's total area, and has a population of 2.69 million, among which the Hans is the main nationality and other minority nationalities. Hakka Dialect and South Fujian Dialect are the main dialects here.

Favorite thing: The surprising thing is the houses of each middle income family can be build 4 to 6 storey high. The wall surrounding the house is build to the edge of the house area, leaving only very narrow roads for one car to pass. I'm very amazed by the skillfulness of the drivers to navigate through the narrow roads.

Favorite thing: More curious, however, were the many round, open-topped objects rising high in the fields. On closer inspection we found that they were earthen buildings typical to this region, and have been inhabited by generation after generation of Hakka people.

Favorite thing: Leaving Ninghua, we drove past Qingliu, Liancheng and Shanghang. In these places, people all talk in the Hakka dialect, albeit with slight differences from place to place - a far cry from the local Fujian dialect.

Favorite thing: LongYan has the highest number of motorcycles per capita than any other city in China. Driving a car can be scary with so many motorcycles on the road.

Favorite thing: As our car entered Yongding County, tobacco plants began to appear in vast fields, as Yongding is an important tobacco producer in Fujian Province.
