This bridge served not only as a way to get across the river but also as a community gathering center for the villagers. As you can see there is a small shrine in the center of the bridge as well as benches for people to stop, sit down, and chat after meeting in the middle. These children remained on the bridge after I left, continuing their martial arts play and laughter.

I was surprised to discover a small shrine inside the covered bridge. Notice the folk art paintings above the upper beams.
Whenever tourists from afar enter remote villages, the curious children congregate and celebrate first with the visitor and then with each other.

This bridge is located in a small village between Yongchun and Xianyou. I stopped here on my way between Dehua and Putian but few tourists go to Dehua unless they have a strong interest in ceramics. (Dehua is not even listed in the VT destination database.)

Anping Bridge is over 2000 meters long and is located approximately 30 kilometers south of Quanzhou in the small town of Anhai. Construction began in 1138 and there is a pagoda and temple waiting for you at the end of the bridge.
