Favorite thing: The link is to a general topographic map of the area, as local maps are impossible to find.
Note that Wuwei is just off the map to the north (just past where the two railways join).
The town of Gulang is the yellow blob where the road and railway head up into the mountains towards the bottom of the map.
The main part of the Qin Wall runs parallel to the railway running east-west at the top.
There are actually good roads all over this srea, but they are not indicated on this map.
I have GPS coordinates for the Wall in this area if you need them.
Fondest memory: The photograph shows the top of the Great Wall - the 'outside' is to the left.
about 100 metres away is a farm which has used the Wall as one side of its perimeter, and has actually damaged it. Beyond the farm, bulldozers had removed part of the wall recently.

Favorite thing: If visiting this area, it is important to be fairly self-reliant and be prepared. I am not sure whether there is any accommodation here, although everywhere in China, local people will offer to put you up for the night, but there will be few comforts other than the warmth of their hospitality.
Take care with food and water, especially if you require more than boiled water. Those of us living in China are adapted to the multitude of bugs generally, but coming from Europe or the US, your stomach may not be so tolerant!
Take at least a basic first-aid kit with you.
