Travelling by train
Perhaps the best and most popular way to tranverse the huge and isolated regions of Western China, including Gansu, is by train. You can start in Xian city and travel all the way West to Urumqi in Xinjiang province or the other way around. Sometimes the train will stop for a few hours if the wind speed is too high. During my train journey, it stopped for about 3 hours beacuse of the wind.
