The new railway line from Yumen and Jiayuguan to Dunhuang passes through Anxi and there is a station. Passenger services will start in 2006. For now, the easiest way to Anxi is by road from the station at Liuyuan (also known as Dunhuang, but 130km north of Dunhuang) or 2.5 hours drive from Dunhuang itself.
