Being in the Shunde region, Foshan City which is famous for its gastronomic skills, and that i was there visiting family during the Spring Festival / Lunar New year gave me the advantage that nobody was working, rather, they were preparing for traditional rites, sharing meals that included many dishes with symbolic dishes that calls for blessings in the coming new year ~ all yearning for prosperity, good health, sons if you're newly married, promotion at work
Favorite Dish:
Seafoods, Deep Fried Squabs, Vegetables and more;
but tasting the subtle differences of how we are nurtured,
as i have said elsewhere in my foodie comments,
"Once you have enjoyed a lovingly prepared traditional meal at a home,
you've been soundly introduced to their Culutal heritage."
There being so many cuisines in China here is another Foodie's view
At first I expected a run of the mill 5 star fancy restaurant inside a fancy 5 star hotel with cloth napkins and piano music. Well, it looked that way from the outside. (upstairs from the main floor)
But once you go in you are surrounded by two walls full of cooks behind food counters. It's just like a big food mall - just walk around and bring your table ticket to each station. They have samples of everything on display - Simply point, then specify the quantity 1,2,3. that's it. Some of it is delivered to your table and others handed to you right there. The food bill is calculated like a Dim sum restaurant as they do charge a tea fee $10 rmb per person I think.
It was a clean, well run, and a very pleasant restaurant experience outside of Hong Kong.
A westerner would be very comfortable here. (paper napkins)
Favorite Dish:
It's all pretty good. As with most street food -what you see is what you get. The variety of food was very good, everything from Dim Sum to Goose intestines. Duck to Congee, Fruit drinks and fresh noodles etc. The fried dumpling ( a fried desert) simply melted in my mouth - it was so fresh )
Eating, is most important for man, have the local food let you enjoy and appreciate the local culture.
When in foshan, the best place for eat is Shunde District. There are some special food you shouldn't miss.
Bengsha. It's a fried food, the most famous is Daliang Bengsha, but recommend you don't eat too much, be course it's too oily.

Of course, fresh water fish is a wonderful food, it's deferent from see food.
And many local food you may have a try, it's very outstanding.
The restaurant is located by the road. At the entrance you can choose from a large variety of live fish and seafood. Then you go to a private room, this restaurant had many, and have your magnificent meal.
Oyster Congee in Foshan is well known by locals.Oysters are from Jam Jiang (the river nearby). People there like to cook and serve them in congee. You probaby cannot forget it's fresh taste!
