The Guangzhou Baiyun international airport is a new airport located some 30 km or so from the city. It is much further from the old airport. However, the airport is large and the international flights terminal has lots of space to relax as well as some nice shops for spending your last local currency.

I don't know if that time I had miracle or it was a real deal. But I think it is a worth trying for everyone who want to fly from Guang Zhou to other city in China. Follow suggestion from other VT members, that better buying domestic flight ticket in China, I went to a travel agent counter in front of arrival gate at Guangzhou Bai Yun Airport, and asked for same day ticket to Xian. The staff gave me the price that really shocked me because it was way cheaper that the cheapest flight ticket that online travel agent offer. I only pay RMB 880/pax include tax and fuel. Compare to RMB 1020 that online travel agent offer. What was doubled my shocked, they also give me first class lounge while waiting for my flight. Any better than that?

Finally finally figured out why I get lost at this airport. Sure, it's big, but so are other airports.
It's the wierd signage plus the different centralized "Main Hall" design. Walking between terminal A and B is long (1/4 mile?) due to the layout & design incurring excessive "empty space". http://www.baiyunairport.com/english/
When they say "Area A" they mean Terminal A. "Area B" means Terminal B. The Airport really has 4 terminals, 2 on the "Area A side" (East of main hall) and 2 on the "Area B" side (West of main hall).
When they say "Departures Hall" they mean the whole 3rd floor of the main hall/terminal. When they say "Arrivals Hall" they mean the whole 1st floor A & B terminals. The 2nd floor either doesn't exist or is not accessible by the public. The 1st floor is also where the shopping mall and restaurants are.
And just when you got things straight they also numbered their doors. They numbered their doors on both the 3rd and 1st floors. Doors 1-16 are all on the 3rd floor, 17-32 all on the 1st floor. But in arrivals - 1st floor Area A has exit doors 1,3,5,7,9. Area B has exit doors 2,4,6,8,10,12
Just forget the door#'s and remember that the express buses are on the B terminal (east side) aka: Area B 1st floor Arrivals hall

Guangzhou has a new Baiyun International Airport which is much further from town compared to the original Baiyun International Airport. An expressway leads directly to the International Airport.
The airport is ultra modern and has seats available at the departure hall for you to while you book your tickets, wait for checking in of luggages, etc. I, understand, there are locker services though I have not seen it myself while I was there.
Arrival / Departure monitors for both domestic and international flights are in English. There are cafe, shops in the Arrival / Departure Halls. However, within the boarding areas, most of these shops seems to close before the last flight is out.

Air ticket, cost me RMB170+ one way from Guangzhou to Singapore (Tiger Airways)
or you can take AirAsia (airasia.com) at Macau, and you visit Kuala Lumpur, cost you RMB170 one way (about US$30.00) only.

The new Baiyun International airport started running in 2004 and located 28km from downtown. There are 7 express bus lines, most routes at 20 yuan. Also a direct bus to Zhuhai.
There is a medical clinic, post office and left luggage.
One of the newest airport in China and much improved than the old Bai Yun Airport.

By Air : Guangzhou airport is Baiyan International. The distance to town is about 8 km/5 miles. There are taxis at the airport for transport into town. Flying time from Hong Kong is 45 mins.
By Train : Guangzhou rail has 2 lines running with more planned for the future. One line runs from Xilang to Guangzhou East Railway Station. The other line runs from Sanyuanli to Pazhou, and interchanges with the other Line at Gongyuanqian. By Taxi - Taxis are the most common means of transportation for foreigners. All Guangzhou taxis have a meter. Expect traffic jams.

Guangzhou's new airport is absurdly huge. The cavernous central building could possibly be the biggest indoor hall in Asia, and the two parallel wings (A and B) are each bigger than most other airports in the world.
It really is difficult to adequately convey the scale of this airport. It is numbing on the legs, even with the numerous moving walkways.
The cost of cooling this building must be incredible as it is mostly glass.
The airport - which is a stunning design - is a masterpiece of form over substance, as there are very, very few convenient services. In the arrivals hall, the coffee shops are at the very far ends of the hall (maybe 500 metres apart!!) with little in-between.
The ONLY ATM machine that accepts foreign cards (Cirrus, Maestro, etc) is on the top (entrance level) of the departure building just by Check-In Desk Row N. There is another ATM for Chinese cards alongside the enrance to the International Departures section. It is a damn long walk to either from the arrivals hall (you have to go up to the second floor and cross the bridge).

White Cloud Airport is quite a big one, but a bit old and crowded. But traffic to downtown is very convenient as it lays so close to the center of Guangzhou. Taking a cab to central Guangzhou is only about 30RMB.

If you live in the US, I recommend a flight back to Beijing before coming home. Instead of 20 hours of straight airtravel - Guangzhou to Hong Kong, HK to San Francisco, SF to Chicago - you can fly two hours back to Beijing and then get a direct flight straight to your city.
