    Cantonese people love having tea so much. Morning, afternoon and evening. This restaurant is a fancy one serving tea too. Besides, there serve food to go with tea too. If you come after 9.30pm, you only pay 1 yuan for tea for each person, and 3 yuan for whatever dish you get!

    There are so many kinds of desserts. My favorite one is called "tortoise-tufuling" (the dark one in the pic). It smells fragant and tastes sweet, a little bitter and smooth. They said it can smoothen your skin, keep you young and give you long life if you eat it. Better hurry and get it in Guangzhou. :-)

    Banana Leaf Curry House is a chain of superb Thai restaurants that are popular in the Guangzhou area... Banana Leaf has a huge menu, loaded with interesting Thai specialties, as well as a few options from other Southeast Asian countries such as their delectable Malaysian satay...! Their fresh coconut juice is always good, and usually the best place to get coconut juice in Guangzhou... This restaurant also features some live entertainment in the form of singing and dancing by the staff members themselves who sometimes get the customers involved...!

    We usually began with the succulent strips of barbecued eggplant you see in the photo here, and then continued on to a plate of enormous South China Sea oysters, followed by beef satay and tangy zesty Cantonese chicken wings! And to drink with this magnificent feast, a Chinese Coca-Cola...

    Xiujuan took me out and introduced me to Cantonese style barbecue cuisine and the taste sensations were unbelievable! The dining usually begins after 21:30 and is either indoor open-side or al fresco with the modest wooden tables and plastic chairs arranged along the sidewalk... As the summery air of the Guangdong province night soothes you, sink your teeth into this outrageous fiesta for the senses...!

    This is an amazing Thai restaurant on Shamian Dao. Prices are quite reasonable and the food is sensational! I had the best fresh calamari ever, accompanied with a sweet and delectable orange sauce. Also had duck satay with peanut sauce and some of Xiujuan's delicious fresh crab! To drink, fresh papaya juice and for dessert a unique and very tasty slice of Durian cake!

    Lan Kwai Fong, a primarily Thai restaurant named after the ever popular bar and restaurant district of Hong Kong Island, is a very pleasant place to eat within the relaxed atmosphere of Shamian Island. It is located on the east end of the island, in the former French colonial quarter, not far from the tennis center. Al fresco dining alongside the Pearl River is an option. Note the Thai rice, shrimp and pork baked in an actual pineapple in the photo shown here... That was really tasty! At center is Xiujuan's legs of mutton and behind that a great plate of Indian Roti bread...!

    Lucy's of Shamian Dao has a mixture of western and asian cuisine on the menu, and is decorated with lots of Hollywood memorabilia and movie posters such as the Marilyn Monroe poster you see in the photo here. There is indoor seating with air con as well as outdoor dining al fresco style. The best thing is they have an old-fashioned juke box with many songs to choose from, mostly 1970's classics and a few more recent romantic songs...

    The food at Lucy's is a combination of typical Western options as well as various items from Asian countries. I've had the hamburger, various Italian-style pastas, quesadillas (pictured here), Hungarian goulash stew, and Malaysian-style noodles. They also make a good hot ginger Coke and have fresh fruit juices as well as a wide selection of alcoholic drinks...

    The Rose Garden club, located on Shamian Dao, right alongside the Zhu Jiang, is one of the most romantic restaurants in Guangzhou. There is seating right next to the river and views of the neon lights on the opposite shores are very nice... The food is also good, a mixture of Eastern and Western cuisines offered, as well as a diverse selection of alcoholic drinks... As you can see in the photo, there is al fresco dining with Chinese lanterns hanging from the trees overhead, providing a lovely atmosphere. There is also dining inside with air con as well... Romantic Chinese and Western songs are usually played, adding to the ambience...

    The club sandwich is very good, a close approximation of the western version...
