This area known as Shun Ha Jiao (translation --> UP DOWN 9) is a local market with many bargains. They include clothes, & anything you could possibly think of.
What to buy: You have to haggle prices with the local vendors there because they will always start with a very expensive price. The only places you shouldn't haggle at are food establishments & foreign owned stores (eg. Baleno & Bossini).
What to pay: upwards of 50 Yuan RMB

Don't ever pay the asked price. Bargain is the rule. Even in the department store you can get a 40% reduction.
What to buy: Jade, silk, electronics
What to pay: Well, it depends, but I would say that prices are some 3-4 times lower than in Europe.

China can but a meat eaters paradise and a Vegetarian / animal activists nightmare! I didn't get to sample all that China has to offer in the areas of food basically because I was too cheap to sample the more expensive foods! I was happy with my chicken or beef with rice or noodles!! Turtles were available everywhere, so they must be quite popular. I never did see anyone eating them though so I'm not sure of how they are prepared.

This is another shopping street in Guangzhou. Its name is pretty funny because in English it is Up-Down Nine. The street is a bit narrow and very crowded. Many shops selling everything, mostly clothes and shoes - very cheap. The houses here are very neat too as they look very classic.

This commercial street sells almost everything - clothes, shoes, etc.. Things are extremely cheap. Spending 2 USD, you can get yourself a really nice pair of shoes. You can buy so many pairs and just throw them after you get tired of them.

During the ancient times of China, if a person got the number one score on a civil service exam, then they could be in the civil service and work for the government and we would call them "Zhuangyuan"... See, this is a statue of Zhuangyuan... Because of that, the street is named "Zhuangyuan Fang".

Although it is a short street, Zhuangyuan Fang has lots of mini stores along it... Very cute Japanese and South Korean things can be bought here... And, very CHEAP... ^_^
But don't go there on the week-ends or on days when students don't have school -- otherwise, you will regret it...!
