The junction road to Ma Jiang Long Diaolou Cluster is located in Baihe Town (百合). It is a short 10-minutes walk to the main entrance of Ma Jiang Long Diaolou Cluster. You will see the Baihe Bridge (百合桥) that allow you to cross the Tanjiang River (潭江), then the main entrance is a short walk away.

Road to Jin Jiang Li Village Cluster

    by cal6060 Updated Sep 12, 2013

This is the longest walk (20-minutes) from the main road to the Village plus I got out the bus of a wrong bus-stop. So I walked almost 30 minutes from Xian Gang Town (蚬冈) to Jian Jiang Li Village Cluster. Walking was a great way to see the countryside of Kaiping. I thought I might not be back here again so I better enjoyed whatever I had at that moment.

After a short walk from the junction, there is a bridge , Chang Le Qiao (长乐桥), to cross the Tanjiang River. I really needed something called a Chang Le Qiao means Long Happy Bridge. I wanted to cross it to have a long happy life. The walk passed through two farms including a duck farm, with a lot of ducks floating on the lake. There were many plots of paddy fields turned brown due to the cool weather. Approaching the village, a beautiful lake is situated at the front entrance of the village. The beauty of the Jin Jiang Lin Village began here.

    Xian Gang Town

On my way to Jin Jiang Li Diaolou Village, I accidently got out of the bus of a wrong bus-stop. I ended up in this Xian Gang Town. The is a unique town with many unknown Diaolou buildings, shop houses, market, and a river. Unlike many towns in other part of China with modern development, this village remains rustic with old buildings and shop houses. It seems like the youngs have migrated to big cities for a better life, and left with the old parents in the countryside. This is a beautiful town with a river that can be easily developed as a famous tourist spot in Guangdong. For me, I just like the way it is!

In Chinese: 蚬冈镇, Xian Gang Zhen.

Road to Zili Village Diaolou Cluster

When the bus stops at the junction in the Zili Village (shown in the pictures), you get out of the bus and walk around 15 minutes to reach the main entrance of Zili Village.

The views of this walk are much more interesting as the road are lined with tall trees by the paddy field. It is rather a long walk to see the main entrance. When I reached the village, the driver of the electric buggy offered me to use his service (10 yuan) and gave me a ride back to the main road later when he got off of work around 17:00. So, I got the free ride back to the main road to wait for the bus to come. While waiting for almost 15 minutes, there was a group of students from Europe ask me for the bus direction. They were lucky to meet someone who speaks English as they were worried to miss the bus back to Yici Bus Station to catch their schedule bus back to Guangzhou. They are architectural students from Netherland as exchange students in China. They were brave enough to visit the Zili Village as a day trip from Guangzhou by using the public transportation. This show that you don't need to speak Chinese to take the public buses.

When you take a bus from downtown Kaiping to Li Yuan, you need the bus to stop here and walk 5-minutes the main entrance of Li Yuan. The walk will take you to see the countryside of Kaiping, a paddy field with Diaolou buildings doted on the flat countryside land. A lot of the old Diaolou buildings are still inhabited by the local farmers or residents. You could see old men and women working in the paddy field despite during winter in Southern China.

  • Hot Springs

by Kaiping Written Dec 11, 2007

There are a few hot springs in the neighboring district of Enping. I visited one and it was a great experience. You can take a taxi or hire a personal driver to any of those locations. I would advice negociating the price first and asking the driver to wait outside of the resort for the return trip. The price should be around $200-300rmb(around $20-40usd) for the ride but that is just an estimate.
