taxi's will scam you for higher fares. was told before we went the anount we should pay, they jack it up when they see a tourist. watch your luggage carefully, they will use every opportunity to stick the best piece in the back seat & intentionally drive off with it, had that happen just recently. get his cab number & put these guys in jail. they are criminals!

Do not keep money in outer pockets since there people who pick pockets. My Great Uncle was apparently targeted. He had no clue what had happened until some people came up to him and told him. Luckily for him, he had no money in his pockets so the pick pockets ended up with nothing :)
Don't wear expensive clothing, coats, jackets....you'll stand out as an easy target.
Keep your i-pods, expensive cameras, etc. out of sight !

I have never experience any dangers in Kaiping when I was there but you should still be advice to be careful. I would recommend not be too flashy with your wealth because it can attract unwanted attention. I also recommend carry money in the front pocket because it would be hard for pickpockets. For women it would be better not to carry a purse because motorbike thieves can easily snatch it away but if a purse is needed then carrying it in the front is better than at the sides.
When using $100rmb to buy things and if a $50 is involved in the change it is a good idea to check the $50 before accepting because of counterfeits.
Overall Kaiping seems like a safe place but as with anywhere that you haven't been to it is always good to be on the safe side and just be aware.
