Ice Skating In Shenzhen

Not only is ice skating available 365 days a year, but the largest commercial ice rink in Shenzhen's biggest and best mall is the home of this fabulous spot. Skating starts daily around 10am and finishes at 10pm, with reasonable rates that include the skates and locker. Food service inside. Coach by national, world and Olympic champions (including China's famous Chen Lu who won 2 bronze Olympic medals and was 1995 World Champion....and Denis Petrov, former national champion of Russia who has an Olympic Silver and World Championship title). Polite and well trained staff, this is by far the most luxurious ice rink on the planet. Highly recommend it. They have a fun website with a live video picture at www.worldicearena.com. Group rates, very nice environment.

Equipment: You're in southern China so ice skating can be done in tee shirts most of the time. Its never really cold or hot...Just right.

It may not snow in Shenzhen but this city has ice skating available year round. Thanks to the ice skating rink in posh mall MixC. Prices range from 40 to 60 rmb per hour.

Equipment: if you're a newbie and you dont have your own pair of ice skating shoes, no worry because they're available for rent here.

Olympic Ice Skating Arena in Shen Zhen

I'm no Peggy Fleming but I do love the Olympic size ice skating rink at the MixC shopping mall, which is incidentally the largest shopping mall around here.

How to go there: By Shenzhen Metro, 3 stops from Lowu, alight at Da Ju Yuan.

Where: MixC is located to Shenzhen's tallest structure, Diwang Building.

Tip: Thursday is Ladies Night (!) so there's discounted entrance fees for the fairer sex. On Wednesdays at 8pm, you can see the more talented skaters perform their routines.

Equipment: There are skates for rental here.

Bird Watching in Shen Zhen

The best place to do a bird watching here is at the mangrove reserve in Futian District near Shenzhen Bay. During migration season, more than 100,000, or a total of 194 species can be seen here.

How to go there: Take the ShenZhen Metro and get off at Qiao Cheng Dong stop, take exit “A”, then walk towards west for 2 minutes, turn right when seeing a petrol station and “Konka” Group sign, keep straight on for 5 minutes will hit a T junction, then keep left and follow the En Ping Street all the way through for 3-4 minutes, You will see an open car park and the hostel is next to it. Mangrove Nature Reserve (bird watching) at sea front and botanic garden are about half an hour (walking) away from the hostel.
