    Fast train to Guangzhou

Shenzhen is not very well connected to the other major cities neither by bus nor by train. You can catch the trains or buses that comes from Hong Kong and travels to the main cities like Beijing. But if you are planing to go to Sichuan province ,Tibet or any other western parts of the country the best way is taking a 1 hr trip on a fast train to Guangzhou where you can find many transportation options to every part of the country.A trip costs 76 Yuan and you can take the train from Luo Hu train station.

    A good place to start

    by claude-andre Updated Apr 14, 2008

Shenzhen is a good place to begin a travel through China. Many trains depart from the main station near the border and it is really easy to get a ticket 12-24 hours in advance. The ticket office workers are quite helpful. They have some knowledge of English.

The airport is also interessant. You find many connections with cities around China. There are easy transportations from/to Hong Kong.
It is really cheaper to travel to/from Shenzhen instead of travelling to/from HK. And flights to HK from anywhere in the world are cheaper than flights to Guangzhou or Shenzhen.

  • The Shenzhen Metro

    by Janice-ann Written Apr 29, 2007

The Metro system in Shenzhen is relatively new and offers a very clean, efficient and cheap way to navigate the city.
Not all areas of Shenzhen are covered, so check first to ensure your destination is available.
A Metro link from Hong Kong is scheduled to begin aroung July 07...
Also, although some stations offer wheelchair elevators, some don't! I saw one wheelchair user being carried in his chair up a flight of stairs in order to get out!

The flight from Shenzhen to Kunming is about 2 hours, and you can buy a air ticket for a special price if you book at least one month in advance. I bought a ticket with 40% off the normal price!
ShenZhen airport is modern and comfortable!

    Take a bus!

by Winged Updated Dec 22, 2002

I'm assuming that if you're in China in the first place, then you have access to someone who can translate for you, in which case they can help you with buses (working out what bus you need, what stop to get off at, how much the fare is). Definitely use the bus instead of taxis. Taxis in Shenzhen are quite expensive compared to much of China, especially if you're going long distances. Bus fares vary depending on how far you're going (trips I took were between 2 and 7 yuan) but even the more expensive ones are a great improvement on taxis! Buses aren't bad; some may be pretty crowded, depending on the time of day and where you're going. I don't know if this is true for *all* buses in Shenzhen, but all the ones we took came every five-ten minutes or so, so if you've just missed one, you don't have long to wait.

  • Shenzhen Huang Tian Airport to Hong Kong Airport

by chinalover Written May 26, 2005

Landed at Shenzhen Huang Tian Airport and needed to catch a connecting flight in Hong Kong. There is a direct bus from both Terminals A and B that will take you to Hong Kong International Airport for a fee of RMB 200. That is more expensive than taking a bus to the checkpoint and then taking the train into HK. But sure takes the inconvenience out.

    Coming from Hong Kong

by kevarms Written Jan 24, 2005

Take the train from Hung Hom KCR station in Hong Kong. 1st class will set you back just HK$66. Well worth it as second class can be very crowded. The train stops at the Lo Wu border crossing where you go through HK immigration before crossing a small covered bridge to the Shenzhen SAR side. You will go through Chinese immigration here.

Always make sure you have the place you are going to written on a piece of paper in CHINESE, also always keep a card or note with your hotel name (also in chinese) with you, so that if you get lost you can just jump in a taxi.
