There is only one thing to say, stay clear of the money changers on the street. While they may give you a better rate of exchange than the banks, they will also give you a lot of trouble for your efforts. While it is so acceptable for locals to exchange money with exchangers on the street that they just sit on the streets and conduct business, it is not acceptable for foreigners to do so. It is against the law. So keep clear and keep out of trouble. It's not worth the couple dollars in headache.

As in an city, there is its fair share of crime. This is also the case for this small city. It is readily apparent to people there if you are from another country or if you visiting the homeland from far off.
The suggestion is just to be wise. Do not wander into back streets alone at night. Keep your personal belongings and valuables close. If you are out and about, watch out and be aware of your surroundings. Beware of running into the same couple of people more than once and check to see if anyone follows you.
