Zhuhai Things to Do

The beautiful ocean-lady ... I could not miss her and really was very focussed this time in December 2007.

Though ... even I met the famous Zhuhai "Fishing Lady" I got so unlucky because my batteries went down and there I stood before her all alone, admiring the really beatiful statue of the Fishing Lady, with a pearl in her hands ... and could not take one single pic of her !!!

So the only memory for the time is a post-card ... and I will go back end of 2008 to see her again... and take a pic of her... if allowed

I donot think you will strike out the shopping-time from your wanna-do list. I met some people who came to China from Macau for some other things to do though most of my friends went for the shopping areas.

And most of them returned with too many shoppings, carrying too many presents, too many clothes, too many souvenirs and a lot of less money.

Is a funny thing, isn't it? Our greed and desire for grab things wherever is so human and so like Alice in Wonderland ... so China is a paradise for sure.

And why not? There is so much to buy, and for such cheap prices. But still,... remind these prices, too, will empty your wallet. So use your calculator for bargains (they donot speak English, so better do business like real traders, with your hands and convincing power), and remember the best price is around a third from the starting point of bargaining ... like anywhere in the world. Enjoy your shopping time !

When leaving the border-mall of Zhuhai at the Gongbei Gate you may enter Zhuhai-city. Well, to me it looked like walking into the center. A very nice promenade where you cannot read a thing! The promenade street is named the "Lotus Street".

Ofcourse Zhuhai, actually a prefecture-level city, is Chinese and they donot mind their language for translating not the least trouble. I can imagine, why they should anyway?

Just go for that walk and enjoy the hustle and bustle here. Try, please try some of the delicious food in the stalls and do not ask what it is. I had some wonderful tries and I must tell you, it was absolutely delicious. Ofcourse my brother knew how to order and told us later what we had eaten ... *lol*

I've only spent a couple days in Zhuhai. My Chinese hosts wanted me to see the Fish Girl !!! - I had no idea what that was about but once on the spot I kind of figure out that should be a popular spot in the city.

I'm now doing some research and trying to find out what the "Zhuhai Fish Girl", which I like, is all about. ...

When you enter China, Zhuhai, from Macau you're just gonna jump into a huge mall. My first idea of entering China was walking along a large road, lonely and ... chinese?

Hahaha, nope, it's bustling of life, business, money, and crowdy with people, yep, a lot of Chinese. It's overwhelming walking in the mall that asorbs you underground. Don't worry, the products there will overwhelming you, too! Just name it, and go in search of it.

Located in Lanpu, Jiuzhou Ave., the New Yuan Ming Palace was built according to the main constructions of the original Yuan Ming Palace in Beijing in the proportion of 1:1. It covers a land area of 1.39 square kilometers and a water area of 100,000 square meters. Everyday there are performances of Qing properties and folk vaudevilles. It is a national 4A class tourist attraction and one of the “Top Ten Tourist Attractions of Zhuhai”.

The Houshawan ruins in the dunes of Houshawan, east of QiaoIsland, Tangjia Town, was discovered in 1984 when undertaking a survey of cultural relics in Zhuhai. It's one of the historic sites in Guangdong province that are typical of the Neolithic Age, about 4450 yearsago with its extremely rare finds of the ancient painted pottery and whitepottery.

Situated at the Mirror Bay, Gaolan, west of Zhuhai, the cliff carvings at Moya are relics of the Bronze Age. Discovered in Oct. 1989 by the archeologists of the Zhuhai Museum, it contents of what it renders, you seem to see many things, such as boats, human beings, snakes, birds, deer and many drawings of different patterns, some of which appear to resemble that on the bronze ware and the ancient pottery, and some of which are hard to tell yet. You are able to see many people, men and women, some of whom are standing or lying down, or running, or dancing. So vivid and so mysterious are images. You seem to see its reflections of the primitive humans' totemism, custom, daily activities, and art as well. The Mirror Bay Petroglyphs Series are of extreme values, and were announced as Zhuhai Cultural Relics Site for Protection in 1989.
