I've only spent a couple days in Zhuhai. My Chinese hosts wanted me to see the Fish Girl !!! - I had no idea what that was about but once on the spot I kind of figure out that should be a popular spot in the city.
I'm now doing some research and trying to find out what the "Zhuhai Fish Girl", which I like, is all about. ...
When you enter China, Zhuhai, from Macau you're just gonna jump into a huge mall. My first idea of entering China was walking along a large road, lonely and ... chinese?
Hahaha, nope, it's bustling of life, business, money, and crowdy with people, yep, a lot of Chinese. It's overwhelming walking in the mall that asorbs you underground. Don't worry, the products there will overwhelming you, too! Just name it, and go in search of it.
Located in Lanpu, Jiuzhou Ave., the New Yuan Ming Palace was built according to the main constructions of the original Yuan Ming Palace in Beijing in the proportion of 1:1. It covers a land area of 1.39 square kilometers and a water area of 100,000 square meters. Everyday there are performances of Qing properties and folk vaudevilles. It is a national 4A class tourist attraction and one of the “Top Ten Tourist Attractions of Zhuhai”.
The Houshawan ruins in the dunes of Houshawan, east of QiaoIsland, Tangjia Town, was discovered in 1984 when undertaking a survey of cultural relics in Zhuhai. It's one of the historic sites in Guangdong province that are typical of the Neolithic Age, about 4450 yearsago with its extremely rare finds of the ancient painted pottery and whitepottery.
Situated at the Mirror Bay, Gaolan, west of Zhuhai, the cliff carvings at Moya are relics of the Bronze Age. Discovered in Oct. 1989 by the archeologists of the Zhuhai Museum, it contents of what it renders, you seem to see many things, such as boats, human beings, snakes, birds, deer and many drawings of different patterns, some of which appear to resemble that on the bronze ware and the ancient pottery, and some of which are hard to tell yet. You are able to see many people, men and women, some of whom are standing or lying down, or running, or dancing. So vivid and so mysterious are images. You seem to see its reflections of the primitive humans' totemism, custom, daily activities, and art as well. The Mirror Bay Petroglyphs Series are of extreme values, and were announced as Zhuhai Cultural Relics Site for Protection in 1989.
The Statue of fisher girl has become the landmark in the city of Zhuhai, located at the scenic Xianglu Bay. She holds a pearl high in the air with both hands in an elegant pose, admiring its bright luster that also symbolizes the brightness of Zhuhai. The statue is composed of granite and stands 8.7 meters high weighing 10 tons. The legend is that a beautiful fairy maiden fell in love with a young fisherman. He believed some fabricated rumors and asked the girl for the bracelet she wore as proof of her love. Although she knew she would die if the bracelet were removed from her body, she still took it off and presented it to show her deep lovefor him. The girl died and the fisherman was bitterly remorseful, crying all day and all night. An Immortal named Jiuzhou Elder was moved by their love and helped the young man resuscitate the girl. They offered this huge precious pearl to their benefactor during their marriage ceremony as a token of their appreciation for his kindness.
The Meixi Royal Stone Archways stands by the roadside of Meixi,Qianshan town. The three dainty buildings were given by Guangxu Emperor in the Qing Dynasty as an honour to Chun afong (Chen Fang), Consul General to Honolulu, Hawaii then, for whose charity to his hometown. They were announced as Guangdong provincial cultural relics site for major Protection.
Travel 2 hrs away from the downtown by bus, you might able to arrive Huang Yang Montain.
The montain is actually a hill, formed by red earth.
In the middle of the montain, there is a lake which looks very peace and green, because the water contains rich of CuSO2.
Nice little beach right at Zhuhai.
(entrance fee is 2 yuan, but if you go early enough, before 7am i think, its free to go in to the beach.) *** Update: the walls have been taken off..everyone is free to go in the beach, but also seems nobody cleans it often anymore ***
At 'winter' time it seems quite empty.
Other times you can see people practising
tai chi in the small park area there and many swimmers at the sea in day time and even before sunrise.
Very nice clean park with fishing lake.
You can climb the mountain behind the park,
and walk quickly the way to BanZhangShan mountain through the forest.
You can see interesting temples when start ing to climb the mountain.

Next to the Zhuhai PuTou temple.
(entrance fee is 10rmb, which you can
avoid by going straight to the putuo temple,
next bus stop, and walk from the temple to this monument :)

Get a view to the sea and the city from Xiniu Wangyue Shan Mountain.
Climb all the way top of the mountain.
At the top there is usually people selling tourist junk and offering to take photos and print them out for you.
Try to find the temple under a big stone and see a house inside a stone there also!
from near the top can take small path to the jida reservoir lake, lots of butterflies on the way in every possible color.

there are some small bays good for fishing in zhuhai, you can take public bus No.10, 69, 3 to there. when you come to the seashore, look forward, you can see one or two small islands and some oyster fields.
