There is in season (from march to october) a direct mini-bus from Guilin (Railway Station) to Dazhai. MOstly departure 8.30, sometimes also second bus at 14.40. You can also ask for direct Bus from Guilin Airport. For Details aks sandy 1 day in advance info@wisdom-inn.com or +86-189-77391660 (also english spoken). otherwise you take bus from guilin (the big direct busses). then from guilin to longshen. from longshen to dazhai. oe you can also change bus in Heping (1 station before longsheng) - but you have to wait and the street there for connecting Bus. Sometimes there are also direct Busses in High season from Dazhai to Yanghsuo. The first Bus from Dazhai is at 8. am. Bus to Guilin need about 2-3 hours.

There are two main places - pinyan and dazhai. dazhai is the more quiet place, pinyan a little more like yangshuo. also some shops of yangshuo have a banch in pinyan like meio-cafe

Fare from guilin to dazhai about 40 RMB. from Longshen to Dazhai 8 RMB. Maybe you can bargain a little. Between Longshen and Dazhai is a "Gate" wher you have to pay 50 RMB entrance fee to Yao reservate. For students and locals discount.

From pinyan to dazhai you walk about 4-6 gours depending on your condition

You can leave your luggage in dazhai or pinyan hotel - or you canb rent a porter (local yao lady with basket).

If you want to go by bus between dazhai and pinyan you have to change bus at dragon bridge. bus villages have only direct bus to longshen and the routes are getting together at dragon bridge.

There is also nearby a tea factory, which you can visit if there is a rainy day.

From the Longsheng bus station, to get to Dazhai, board the small bus in the same station which is heading for Dazhai, Jingkeng. Interval of bus : every half an hour. Earliest bus is at 7am and the latest bus is at 5.20pm. Journey is 1.5hours. Fare is 7yuan per pax one way. You will pass by town of Heping and the branch roads of PingAn and Dazhai (The big sign board that says...Longi Titian). Bus is non AC and is usually packed with locals shuttling between villages with their groceries, some even with big items like the one we were in, has a table in the bus! (see pic attached). Some will be having chickens, little chics and ducks with them! Cosy and interesting, isn't it?

Well, don't know if it's appropriate to park this tip under this category.....
If you want but can't go up way up to Dazhai or around for that matter, you can hire a stretcher chair (something like the olden sedan chair) to carry you up to where you want. Usually, the chair will be handled by 2 carriers but if you are on the heavy side, well, i guess you need to double the carriers..err 4paxs.

Cost : about 100yuan to 150yuan ... i guess, depending on the "load".

We decided to leave for Guilin after 2nights stay at Dazhai. Initially, we were to just take the usual mode of transport back to Guilin ie hike down to Dazhai Bus Station (1 hour), catch the early bus bound for Longsheng (2hours) and then from Longsheng take a direct bus back to Guilin (2 hours). Somehow, there was a change in plan when we met 4 travelers from Beijing when we were doing our hike to PingAn...they were staying at another lodge, just above ours. They have hired a van to take them direct to Guilin and we were invited to join in to share the cost of the transport. The whole van was for hire for 200yuan. There were all in 8paxs in the van (1 driver and 1attendant). Early a.m. at about 6.15am we trekked down to the place where the van was parked (near to Dazhai Bus Station). We packed ourselves into the van and off we go...to Guilin. Journey took 2hours 15mins. You can make arrangement to hire a taxi to take you back to Guilin - approximate cost for per cab is 150yuan to 200yuan.

To get to Dazhai, you need to get to Longsheng first. Longsheng is about 2hours bus ride from Guilin. (Frequency of bus : every half an hour, earliest bus, if i am not mistaken is at about 7am and last bus is about 5.30pm) The fare is 23yuan one way. Bus is fully AC and the ride is comfortable, passing many countrysides - great landscapes of valleys, rice fields, streams , bridges and little houses.

From PingAn, how to get to Dazhai...
You can either :-
Option 1:
Do a hike of 4-5hours from town of PingAn to Dazhai... otherwise here's how..

Option 2:
From entrance at PingAn town, catch a bus bound for PingAn/Longsheng. Stop at Er Long Qiao (after 20mins ride, fare 5yuan for foreigners, 2yuan for locals) and wait. Bus bound for Dazhai/Longsheng will pass this way. Get on this bus, journey will take 1hour (fare :5yuan) to reach Dazhai little bus station. Hike up 40mins to 1hour to reach Dazhai village.
