The embroidery balls or in mandarin "xiu qiu" is renowned in Jiuzhou in Jingxi, Guangxi Province. The balls are hand made and are usually in three colours : red, yellow and green. These are patterned either in forms of plants, flowers, animals or words of good wishes.
The "Xiu Qiu" embroidery ball is used to symbolise love. As such, if a girl were to handmade an embroidery ball and gives it to a boy - it means that she has given her heart to him..... awww....such sweet gesture!
There is also a custom whereby the event called "Tossing the Xiu Qiu" is held by the girl in seek of a fated life partner. The girl will toss the ball over into the loop to the other side where the boys are. The boy who catches the xiu qiu will be the husband to-be.
You can buy these at any gift shops in Guangxi and prices vary with sizes and quality.
