The main shopping street of Nanning city, Chao Yang Road is lined with several modern department stores, like Nanning Department Store and Wal-Mart, in addition to several other international brands and local brands. It is also a nice place to go people-watching, as people from all walks of life can be seen here: youngsters, street performers, roadside vendors etc. There's also the ubiquitous KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonald's as well.

Convenient shopping - "underground" or "basement" shopping".
When you are crossing over roads via the basement or underground subway, you will find lots of stalls selling variety of goods. You can bargain these stuff and normally they are slightly cheaper. Sometimes you can find food stalls too.

This souvenir shop sells all local crafts but the main craft promoted here is the Embroidery Ball or in mandarin , it 's called the "Xiu Qiu". There is also a section of the shop where weaving is being demonstrated.
Embroidery Balls ("Xiu Qiu") are the best of the embroidery crafts. Jiuzhou in Jingxi, Guangxi is the home of embroidery balls. These embroidery balls are made by hand, traditionally with 3 colours of red, yellow and green. The patterns embroidered on the petals of the balls are usually of plants, animals and lucky words.
The "Xiu Qiu" embroidery ball is used to symbolise love. As such, if a girl were to handmade an embroidery ball and gives it to a boy - it means that she has given her heart to him..... awww....such sweet gesture!
What to buy: The many sizes of the embroidery balls. The small one is about 20yuan. Take your pick.
