This is probably the biggest tourist trap I've ever see. Being the largest waterfall in China, with a big nature protected scenic area including a cluster of 18 small waterfalls, water-curtain cave, and rhinoceros pool, Huangguoshu is supposed to be the famous attraction in Guizhou. We woke up early at 6am, put on our trekking outfits, took 2.5 hours bus ride from Guiyang, and hoping to spend at least 4 hours trekking around the area. Despite an entrance fee of RMB90 (more expensive than Beijing Forbidden Palace), it was packed with hundreds of local tourists and aggressive sales people. A mere 10 minutes walk from the entrance, we arrived the Grand Waterfall. It was beautiful. However, the coastline was polluted with trash (plastic bags, paper trash, water bottles, etc), and all paths around the waterfalls including the cave were blocked with “stop” sign boards. We were not allowed to walk around the natural protected area even though walking trails already been setup. So, basically, the entrance fee was only for viewing taking pictures at one waterfall. I heard the Waterfall’s current will be stemmed because of disordered building management, what a pity and shame on those who spoil this grand and peculiarly natural gem.
