I had notices those statues on my way back to the airport 5 years earlier so in 2011, I took my bike and just ventured north trying to find them with my GPS. Found them ! There are 2 giant statues of Mao in front of 2 factories that were created to build tractors and trucks (I think). Luoyang has an impressive array of manufactures ranging from transportation, agricultural equipment to aerospace. Those status can be found at the north end of the western part of town in front of the manufactures

There's a nice array of ugly buildings that are just left unmaintained until they get demolished and make place to tall condo towers, here's a sample.
