Don't be afraid to buy fruit in the market. It's generally safe, just wash it. Bananas are 4 yuan/kilo, apples and oranges are not far off. Don't be surprised if fruit is more expensive here than in the big cities in china...it's harder to get produce here. But it's still really cheap.
Meals: 1 yuan for street food, which again is generally safe, or 5-10 yuan for a good sit down restaurant. (No english menus anywhere except close to the American University here)

No tourist attractions. No for foreigner prices. This is what 60-70% of all Chinese people live like...in the country. Definitely not a city for the high maintenance. Only big thing here is SIAS...
