  • Yellow Crane Tower

    4 out of 5 stars

    Wuhan Things to Do

Originally constructed in 223, after being destroyed and rebuilt repeatedly throughtout history by fires and war, the current structure was built quite recently in 1985. It is still quite beautiful and many famous poems have been written about the tower, and the top of the tower from 1868 remains. It is considered to be one of China's top four...

  • Walk along Chang Jiang river bank

    Wuhan Things to Do

In the morning, it's very nice to walk along the river. You can see many locals doing morning exercises, some people flying kites, and enjoy the morning fresh air. I went there just before summer so the weather was good, not too sure how will it be in winter though.

  • Getting to Wudangshan by Plane

    Wudang Shan Transportation

The closest airport to Wudangshan is in Xiangfan, about a 2 hour drive from Wudangshan town at the base of the mountain.Xiangfan airport is quite small and only has a few flights a day. Destinations include Beijing, Shanghai (Pudong), Guanzhou, and Shenzhen.I caught flight FM9368, which flies daily to Shanghai from 10:55 to 12:45. Please note that...

  • Transport To Wudangshan by Train

    Wudang Shan Transportation

Wudangshan can be quite a difficult place to get to, but is well worth the trouble. If you have the time to spare, I highly recommend traveling by train.Wudangshan has its own train station, which is about 30-45 minutes from Wudangshan town. From Wudangshan town it is about a further 1 hour minibus ride up the mountain to the Purple Cloud Temple.I...

    Xiangfan Warnings and Dangers

Discovered accidentally these contacts inside the toilet of the bus station of Xiangyang. I saw inside the toilet door so much of handwritten phone numbers. At first glance I thought it was some kind of vandalism by kids, after a while of squatting, on second look I can read clearly every words written and also the meaning of those wordings.

Opposite the main railway station, you can see a KFC restaurant (in Chinese wordings only but you can still recognize the logo of that old colonel guy), walk straight ahead the road at left of KFC, approx 3-5 minustes (depends on your walking speed), you can see a few small buses parked at the roadside with many guys approaching you, ignore this...

Here is an example of the carvings in the hall. The top of the hall was used for the energy vortex. Medicines prepared by the hospital were placed in a box at the hill's crest to be charged with Qi.

  • Farmland

    Ezhou Off The Beaten Path

Up the road outside the back gate to Lianhuashan were farm houses, orchards and fish farms. I use to spend mid afternoon (while my translator took a break) walking around the area. It was lovely and peaceful.I sometimes saw this farmer out tending his ponds. The lunch room at the hospital had great river fish. I wonder if he supplied it.

  • Three Gorges Dam - Construction

    Yangzi Things to Do

The Three Gorges Dam was once the world's largest single construction project. As part of my Yangzi River cruise, I got taken on a bus tour of the dam where we crossed over on a bridge to the south bank and taken to another park area which features various bits of machinery such as a bulldozer and digger used in the construction of the dam.

  • Three Gorges Five-step Ship Lock

    Yangzi Things to Do

I found this to be more far more interesting than the dam. The locks work in both directions meaning that ships coming from downstream can navigate through the series of five lock stages at the same time as ships navigating upstream. The whole process takes around 4 hours in total. The locks are designed to be 280m long, 35m wide, and 5m deep (918...

  • Three Gorges Dam

    Yangzi Things to Do

The Three Gorges Dam is located in Sandouping, about 30km from Yichang. It is the largest hydroelectric power station in the world and once the world's largest single construction project. With a long history of planning, the dam body was finished in 2006. When finished, it contained 32 main generators, each with a capacity of 700 MW. All of the...
