The closest airport to Wudangshan is in Xiangfan, about a 2 hour drive from Wudangshan town at the base of the mountain.
Xiangfan airport is quite small and only has a few flights a day.
Destinations include Beijing, Shanghai (Pudong), Guanzhou, and Shenzhen.
I caught flight FM9368, which flies daily to Shanghai from 10:55 to 12:45. Please note that flights from this airport seem to be cancelled quite frequently without much forewarning. Chauffeurs walk the airport giving out business cards to cash in on travelers whose flights are canceled.
The airport has a newsagent, which also sells snacks and drinks. There is also a Chinese restaurant.

Wudangshan can be quite a difficult place to get to, but is well worth the trouble.
If you have the time to spare, I highly recommend traveling by train.
Wudangshan has its own train station, which is about 30-45 minutes from Wudangshan town. From Wudangshan town it is about a further 1 hour minibus ride up the mountain to the Purple Cloud Temple.
I caught train K279 from Zhengzhou, in Henan province (1 hour from the Shaolin Temple), to the Wudangshan train station, which cost 440 RMB. The train left Zhengzhou at 4:30am and arrived at Wudangshan at about 3pm.
The K279 train starts from the Bejing West train station and ends in Shiyan, Hubei province.
I booked a seat in a soft sleeper carriage and it was quite comfortable. 2x bunk beds in a single cabin with overhead storage for your luggage. At the end of the carriage were western and squat style toilets and a machine that dispensed hot water for noodles and tea which could be purchased from people who come buy with snack trolleys. There is also a dining carriage, but it is only open at set times.

A: You need to buy tickets for each leg, hope you already know that. I think you should be at least able to get a hard seat and upgrade on the train.
