Favorite thing: In early 1991, a jar was discovered at Gaomiao that clearly showed two phoenixes. The phoenix is of almost religious significance in China and some other Asian cultures.
This would date the 'phoenix' to at least 7400 years ago, when the jar was made.
For some reason this wasn't noticed until early 2004, when the news was announced with great excitement.
The jar itself sits serenely in the Hunan Provincial Museum (in the third section of the Ten Major Archaeological Discoveries in Hunan Province" exhibition) in Changsha. It is labelled simply as 'Pottery Pot with Holy Birds Design", and still goes unnoticed by the many visitors passing through.
