  • Zhangjiajie Airport

Very small airport, and most flights to and from Shanghai and Beijing are late at night.
The airport terminal building is old, but well laid out, but passengers are all bused to the aircraft.

The airport is close to Zhangjiajie city but 40km from the start of the mountain reserve. The city used to be called Dayong (hence the IATA 3 letter code of DYG).

Taxi fare to the airport is around 30RMB plus the toll fee at the airport gate!

If you are a nervous flyer, then it is best to take a night flight in to Zhangjiajie, take some medication that will knock you out and avoid a window seat. The airport runway is in an extremely narrow valley requiring a long approach at slow speed down the gorge. The air currents in the deep valley make the last 60 seconds a real unpleasant rollercoaster ride, exacerbated considerably if you can see the cliffs and mountains outside. However, it's a long runway so plenty of space to get the plane down on terra firma. Most flights are at night time, and it seems that the Summer 2006 has been completely changed from the printed China Aviation Timetable. For example, there is no 1740 Air China flight from Beijing, but there is a 1730 Hainan Airlines flight (on an extremely cramped and scruffy old 737-400. Go for row 12 - the emergency exit row - if you are tall).

    Human Transport

If you're lazy and too tired to walk along the path in Golden Whip Brook, you can hire these guys to carry you along the entire trail for around RMB100-120 (bargain hard!).

    Zhangjiajie Park Bus

To minimize air pollution, the park restricts only park vehicles to enter the park. Visitors are transported by tour buses to get to the park's attractions.
