We went to a place right at the edge of Chifeng district called Asihatu. Here can be found some late Jurrassic era granite formations, peeking their heads out of the rolling mountains, themselves perched on the edge of rolling grasslands, the start of the romantic Mongolian Steppe.
The rocks themselves were not really interesting, but the location is beautiful, and difficult to get to. The entry fee is high, 100rmb, but this can be bargained, we got ours for 75 per person. A free bus then takes you to the top of the hills, where one can gaze at the miles of green spread out below.

da li lake is the 2nd large salt lake in inner mongolia. in spring, handrand kinds of birds gather here. when i saw it, i even can not belive my eyes. it's as large as sea on the boundless grassland.

These are some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, and after a few years of city life, coming out here was spiritually fulfilling.
