If possible travel light. A carry-on and one standard Pullman is what I would recommend. As with any travel: Secure all valuables and declare them at customs.
Wear comfortable shoes if sightseeing. The climate is pretty comparable to the four seasons. Summers become exceptionally hot and humid.
Bring all prescribed drugs you need from home. Their pharmacies I found to be quite crude. Get travelers insurance of course. Bring your stomach medicine, asprin and other over the counter drugs from home.
You can pretty much find service for your camara, but do not rely on it. Not knowing the language can make an equipment run a bit confusing!
