Luggage and bags: If possible travel light. A carry-on and one standard Pullman is what I would recommend. As with any travel: Secure all valuables and declare them at customs.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Wear comfortable shoes if sightseeing. The climate is pretty comparable to the four seasons. Summers become exceptionally hot and humid.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Bring all prescribed drugs you need from home. Their pharmacies I found to be quite crude. Get travelers insurance of course. Bring your stomach medicine, asprin and other over the counter drugs from home.
Photo Equipment: You can pretty much find service for your camara, but do not rely on it. Not knowing the language can make an equipment run a bit confusing!
Miscellaneous: Make sure you bring an electrical converter!
