This fast food chain has a branch in the Subway station of Xinjukou at the main crossroads of downtown. We tried hard to find a restaurant above ground and having failed we descended into the Metro station where we were surprised to find a host of fast food and regular restaurants of call kinds and budgets, catering for every kind of diner. WE chose the Japanese one as it was a bit quieter than some of the others and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the price was very reasonable. I have since seen this restaurant in many other places around China.
Favorite Dish: cant remember what it was exactly but something with chicken breast with a peanutty sauce and noodles

I guess the style of this restaurant is 'fusion' cuisine. You can find some Italian and Spanish treats and most types of 'Western' food. We'd read some write-ups prior to visiting that Studio 21 was a good place to get a steak. Yes, the menu is a refreshing change and dose of international food.
Avoid visiting mid-afternoon, we had a to walk around the block several times and get lost a bit before coming back so stick to kind of meal time. Nap-time obviously drags ...
Once we got in however we were amongst a couple of diners, then slipping into a booth got to take in the draped and velvety funishings of this place. I remember thinking that if was to run a restaurant, this may be it, as it was piled high with ... stuff. There were odd chairs collected on the stage as to save space for the evening's diners, piles of collection and a large desk from which a dj or band may observe the audience. Once you've taken in cluttered but charismatic surroundings you are given coplimentary sangria and h'ordeuvres (e.g. bread w/ pate) which is always a nice touch so far away from home. This kind of effort is often lost in Chinese 'Western-style' restaurants. An extensive drinks/cocktails menu is also available.
The evening atmosphere got into it's swing as some larger tables of diners joined and it would be a great place to party. The staff are more than willing to push a couple of tables together. The waiter and owner even approached our table to check if the vodka, cranberry juice was strong enough. It wasn't so it was topped up at no extra cost.
It seems they'd gone to the lengths to ensure that every dish and drink was made to stand out.
Whilst I ate a great tagliatelli with asparagus and cold beer, my partner struck gold with a mammoth-sized plate of pork ribs. Quite a spectacle and definitely worth a look. For desert, an Irish coffee came complete with almost the same depth again in whipped cream.
This is a restaurant with big portions and a quirky edge with plenty of local competition. I know some people have a problem with large portions but personally I've no problem with this.

Having tried all other Indian restaurants in Nanjing, Taj Mahal is by far the best in terms of authentic Indian food. IMO, others don't even come close as the food tastes so good at taj mahal. It is not that i tried just once and I have eaten there at least 10 times in 3 months and the food quality has been very consistent, which again surprised me. The price is probably the lowest amongst all other Indian restaurants in Nanjing. If you are an Indian and staying in Nanjing for an extended duration, you shouldn't miss this one.
Favorite Dish: chicken curry, naan bread, tandoori chicken, chef's special chicken etc.

This is a new development complex that uses 17 historical buildings that were built during the time Dr. Sun Yet-sen, the forerunner of China's democratic revolution, had his presidential office built, nearby, in 1912. Nanjing 1912 is home to world-branded coffee shops such as Starbucks, the Coffee Beanery, and Costa Coffee, Japanese and Korean restaurants, Asian-famous spas and beauty salons as well as the ubiquitous KFC and Pizza Hut. There's a nice restaurant called Bellagio where I had beef noodles.

Thanks to another tip, I brought this restaurant's address with me, and was very glad I did. I never thought I would go looking for anything other than Chinese food, but at the end of a three week trip, everyone in the tour group was quite tired, some sick, and the Italian food was very restful. I particularly liked the veggie pizza, although others swore by the calzones, and the breadsticks must be seen to be believed. (They aren't really what most people call breadsticks, but they're very crunchy and tasty.) Also, there is a clean, private Western bathroom, which, one must admit, is something of a selling point for Westerners, no matter how much one has become accustomed to the other kind. Across the street is a gigantic Xinhua bookstore, if you're meeting people at the restaurant and have a few hours to kill - there are several shelves of English books if you prefer, although I liked the enormous music section on the top floor - not just sheet music, they sell instruments too!
Favorite Dish: The veggie pizza had carrots, broccoli, peppers, and several other things I couldn't identify, but it all tasted good.

As the name goes, this stall claims to be selling world's number 1 rice vermicelli.
Very spicy and a bit sour, this dish is suited for the adventurous foodie. The only expression i can think of is a Singaporean term, "shiok".
Do get ready your tissues....
