A fast food, self service chain store. You can find it anywhere as the big red with white Chinese wording signboard is large enough for you to find. Thou patrons a lot yet gives you more time to choose from the menu overhead while you are in a queue. After you have paid for the food, proceed to sideway and take your bowl of transparent noodle.
Favorite Dish: Well, if you dare to take solidified duck's blood and intestine, go ahead...
The pumpkin cake doesn't taste as nice as I had expected.

The ducks' tongues & Nian Gao (Chinese new year cake) are some of the common dishes found in this city. On the other hand, it's not common to find these specialties in Chinese restaurants overseas.
Eating in China is amounting to having a feast! There are just so many different varieties of food to try. If you are courageous, this is a country you'll have your heart's fill of culinary expertise. Just awesome!

Generally food in Nanjing is as good as those of Shanghai.
These shellfish (which I don't know what they are called) are tastefully done in this restaurant where you don't even have to know a single Chinese word to order the food. There are displays of the actual items for you to choose to your heart's content :-)

My favorite restaurant was Jack's. It has an outdoor cafe for the summer and is located across the street from Nanjing University's dorm for foreign students.
I found the price to be extrememly low, the service great, and the food succulent! Being situated near Nanjing International Univerity, you had the chance to meet students from all over the world. The outdoor cafe was small and quaint. Located on a very small street, you were not exposed to the traffic pollution.
Favorite Dish: Sizzling beef tenderloins! Delicious! But beware, it comes piping hot and 'sizzling.' It is accompanied by green and red peppers and white rice. It became a staple in my diet for my 3 week stay.

You will see lots of restaurants in Nanjing, especially in the area of Confucius Temple(Fuzi miao) which is a impressive place I will never forget.I suggest you go there in the evening because it is particularly interesting when a lively street market sets up in the district, and locals and tourists take part in the bargain hunting!
I enjoy that very much. But by the way, don't be too picky about the taste. You just need to absorb the relaxed atmosphere, have something to eat and take part in the fun!
Today, the entire area around the Temple consists of a series of tourist shops, snack bars, restaurants and entertainment arcades all done up in 'Ming' and 'Qing' style architecture.
Well, the price of street food is extremely cheap,if you buy RMB 10's food, you will get a lot. And if you take dinner in a restaurant, the price might be a little higher but it still depends on. 50-60RMB per one is enough.(it's about 8 us dollar).
Favorite Dish: If you have never been to China or Asia, you might not know DOU FU which is a special food made by soybean. So I guess only China and Japan have these kind of food. Nanjing is very famous for their fried Dou Fu.I love it! When I walked around in the street market of Cunfucius Temple,I bought a lot!!! YUMMY YUMMY! :)

I am a 'foreigner' as I am so described at my workplace, so, I tend to favour the 'Western' style restaurants. The best in the city is the Swede and Kraut which has great pizza, pasta's and some German meat dishes.
Favorite Dish: The pasta is great.
